SEQUIM — Sequim got a late goal from Daisy Ryan and held on to beat Olympic League 2A Division power North Kitsap 1-0 to stay in the mix for a playoff spot.
The Wolves avenged a 1-0 loss against the Vikings from earlier in the year — a match that was decided in the final 90 seconds.
Ryan’s goal was assisted by Hope Glasser. Olivia Hare got the shutout in goal.
Coach Derek Vandervelde said the Vikings got about 20 shots on goal. “It was a back and forth game with a lot of long balls. We normally don’t do a lot of long balls,” he said.
After starting the season 0-6 in league (with four matches either decided by one goal or by shootouts), the Wolves have since gone 3-1 in league to put themselves in playoff contention.
“The girls have continued to fight. What they’re doing is is pretty incredible,” Vandervelde said. “I’m preally proud of them.”
The Wolves also needed to win that North Kitsap game to stay ahead of Bremerton for the fourth slot in the Olympic League 2A Divison playoff chase.
Sequim (3-7-0 12 points, 4-8-1) next plays at home at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Port Townsend (0-5, 1-11) in a nonleague match.

BELFAIR — The Roughriders clinched at least a third-place finish in the Olympic League 2A Division with a 3-0 win over the Bulldogs.
Millie Long scored her 15th goal of the year to open the scoring in the eighth minute. The Riders scored their second goal on a corner kick from Delaney Wenzl that Kyrsten McGuffey headed over to Catie Brown, who scored her fourth goal of the year.
McGuffey added to her points total with a goal of her own.
The last Roughrider goal was scored off of a strong individual effort by McGuffey. “North Mason moved their fastest player to man-mark Kyrsten,” said coach Scott Moseley. “Kyrsten was able to dribble through the Bulldog defense, beating their player and finishing with a strong right footed kick past the keeper.” It was McGuffey’s 11th on the year.
Moseley also said that it was the best passing that he had seen this season from the Riders.
Port Angeles (7-2 21 points, 10-3) has a critical match Tuesday at home against North Kitsap (7-2 22 points, 8-4-1) with undisputed second place in the league on the line.
With their 10th win of the year, it was the fourth straight year the Riders have won at least 10 matches.
