Boys Tennis Kingston 5, Port Angeles 2

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders stumbled against the Buccaneers.

“Playing against good opponents brings out the best and I saw some of the best tennis from all the guys today,” Port Angeles coach Gil Stockton said of Wednesday’s match.

Stockton awarded the team ball to No. 1 singles player Kenny Soule.

“He dropped the first set, but came back and won the next two to win his match,” Stockton said.

BELFAIR — The Wolves swept the Bulldogs 25-17, 25-10, 26-24 in a road match.

“We dominated the first two games with tough serving and defensive play,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.

“Our hitters were hitting well with the setters spreading out our offense.”

North Mason took the lead in the third game, taking advantage of unforced errors and troubles with passing in serve-receive.

But a strong run of play led by the serving of Ella Christiansen helped boost the Wolves to the sweep.

Christiansen led the team with seven aces on 20 of 23 serving. She also had three kills.

Sydney Balkan added five aces and led the team in assists with nine. Isabelle Dennis had 10 digs for Sequim.

Jadyn Overby had four kills and three assists on the game.

The Wolves (2-0, 3-0) play in the Monarch Challenge at Mark Morris in Longview on Saturday.

They visit Port Angeles (2-0, 3-0) on Tuesday.
