PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Port Angeles’ Madison pushes toward brother’s record as girls team wins

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Jessica Madison is closing in on her brother’s scoring record.

After a career night in the Roughrider girls basketball team’s 87-30 Olympic League victory over Klahowya on Friday, she could be one game away.

Madison torched the Eagles for 37 points in the Riders’ 34th straight league win, a streak that began her sophomore year.

That puts the senior shooting guard at 1,679 points for her career, 23 shy of her brother, James (1,702), with three games left in the regular season.

Madison buried nine three-pointers, had six steals and went 8 for 8 at the free-throw line Friday night.

Kiah Jones added 13 points for to help the Riders along with Krista Johnson scoring 10 of her own.

The Riders (13-0 in league, 14-3 overall) can clinch a share of the Olympic League title with a win at North Kitsap on Tuesday.

SEATTLE CHRISTIAN 50, CHIMACUM 20

CHIMACUM — The first-place Warriors took little time distancing themselves from the Cowboys in Friday night’s 1A Nisqually League clash.

Seattle Christian’s Katie Collier had a game-high 15 points, helping the Warriors race out to a 27-6 halftime lead that was too much for the Cowboys to overcome.

Kaylie Castillo led the Cowboys with eight points.

“We ran our plays actually pretty well and got really good shots,” Chimacum coach Brad Burlingame said.

“It’s just that [6-foot-2] Katie Collier is just such an intimidating force around the basket.”

Chimacum has the upper hand for the Nisqually fourth and final playoff seed, which would likely mean a seeding game against rival Port Townsend into the 1A Tri-District.

The Cowboys (4-5, 6-11) still have an outside shot at the No. 3 seed if they can win their last three regular season games.

That begins with Tuesday night’s home game against current third-place team Vashon Island.
