PORT ANGELES — Sierra Robinson netted two goals inside of a minute in the early going of Port Angeles’ 7-0 girls soccer victory over Port Townsend at Civic Field.
Robinson scored the game’s first goal in the 10th minute and added another seconds later to stake the Roughriders to the lead.
Taylar Clark added two goals of her own for Port Angeles, scoring in the 18th and 41st minute of the contest.
In between Clark’s tallies, Riders coach Scott Moseley said Nicole Heaton “crushed a shot from 15 yards in the 37th minute.”
Freshman Delany Wenzl notched her first varsity goal in the 40th minute for Port Angeles. Wenzl later assisted on a goal by Summer Olsen.
Kyrsten McGuffey had a pair of assists for the Riders, and Heaton and Leah Haworth also assisted on goals.
Moseley said the Port Angeles defense played strong throughout the game with goalkeeper Madelyn Wenzl getting the shutout.
“We were able to play lots of players, work on some tactical situations and gain some confidence heading into our league games,” Moseley said.
Moseley selected Clark and Robinson as his offensive players of the game, Heaton, Delany Wenzl and McGuffey for their work in transition, and Lexie Jeffers and Saige Hefton as the team’s defensive standouts.
The Riders (1-1-0) hosts Kingston (0-1-0, 0-3-0) Thursday night at Civic Field in their league opener.
Olympic 1, Sequim 0
SEQUIM — The Wolves fell at home in a hard-fought Olympic League 2A Division opener with the Trojans.
Sequim coach Dereke Vander Velde said his team outpossessed Olympic for the match.
“Despite their commendable efforts, they struggled to find the back of the net,” Vander Velde said.
“It was a good opening league test for the girls and an exciting display of soccer.”
Vander Velde praised goalkeeper Claire Henninger for “making several great saves” and said Jessica Deitzman and Daisy Ryan “were dynamic on the field in attack and on defense.”
Alexis Smith scored twice in the Sequim JV’s 3-2 loss to Olympic.
Sequim visits Coupeville for a nonleague game on Thursday.

Port Angeles 3, Port Townsend 0
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders held off a spirited first-set challenge from the Redhawks and earned a 25-21, 25-10, 25-18 sweep in a nonleague match.
Nizhoni Wheeler notched three kills and two blocks for Port Angeles.
Natalie Steinman served 13 of 13 for the Riders and notched two aces, three kills and 10 digs, while Kiana Robideau added four kills, three aces and seven digs.
Alyssa Sweet totaled three kills and five aces for Port Angeles, while setters Callie Hall and Nacia Bohman added 10 and eight assists, respectively.
The Riders (1-0, 1-0) visit Bremerton (1-0, 1-0) on Tuesday.
Sequim 3, Olympic 0
Sequim —Maybe it was the Wolves’ new Nike uniforms, but whatever it was, Sequim came away from it’s season-opener and Olympic League-opener with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-6 sweep of the Trojans.

“We were shocked,” Wolves coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.
“It wasn’t like we thought we were going to lose, but we expected more of a battle.
“We were ready to play, and right off the bat we got some really good hits and blocks. And I think that may have thrown them off a little bit and we pretty much dominated the match.”
Webber Heilman said team serving was a strong point with Sequim racking up 11 aces.
“Our offense was spread out pretty good, they couldn’t key on one player,” she said.
“Adrienne Haggerty was our offensive leader with four kills, five blocks,which was a great improvement over the jamboree, and three aces.”
Sydney Balkan served 15 of 15 with three aces and seven assists.
Ella Christiansen had three kills, two stuff-blocks and three aces.
“Olympic had a hard time getting her serve back in,” Webber Heilman said.
Isabelle Dennis added eight digs for the Wolves, while Lillian Oden had seven assists, a kill and two digs.
Sequim (1-0, 1-0) travels to North Mason (0-1, 0-1) on Tuesday.
Quilcene 3, Auburn Adventist 0
QUILCENE — The Rangers have yet to lost a set in four matches after a 25-3, 25-7, 25-6 sweept of the Falcons.
“Our covering improved this game, and we are reading the ball better,” Quilcene coach Joni Crowell said.
“[Our] serving was very strong, with a total of 24 team aces over the three sets.”
Senior Allison Jones served 17 of 18 with five aces, and added 13 assists and three kills.
Bailey Kieffer served 16 of 17 with six aces, two kills and two digs.
Katie Love hit on 14 of 15 serves with five aces, three kills and four digs.
Freshman Abbygael Weller recorded four aces on 4 of 5 serving, and had two kills, five digs and a block.
The Rangers (2-0, 4-0) will visit Yakima for a tournament at the SunDome this weekend.

School for the Deaf at Crescent
JOYCE — The Loggers host the Washington State School for the Deaf Terriers today at 4 p.m.
Crescent is coming off a 52-14 blowout of Mary M. Knight last Saturday.
It will be the season-opener for the Vancouver-based School for the Deaf.
Bass drums and wood bats have been used to create snap count cadences for the team in the past.
“Their athletic director said they may need a few more seconds between plays to get everything together,” Loggers coach Brian Shimko said.
“We are fine with that. We need some extra time, too.”
Prediction: Crescent 36, School for the Deaf 12.
