SEQUIM — Sequim held off the Olympic in four sets to take over sole possession of second place in the Olympic League volleyball standings with a 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18 win.
“We started a little slow each game, but we managed to make some adjustments and get more focused in each game,” Wolves coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.
Rylie Roberts ripped off a run of five serves in a row to give Sequim the lead, and some tough defense helped the Wolves hold Olympic at bay.
Roberts finished 15 of 16 on serve with five aces, eight kills and 16 digs.
“As a whole, our team served very tough with a total of 17 aces,” Webber Heilman said.
“In the fourth game, Emma LeBlanc had a run of five serves in a row and Kylee Salazar added another seven in a row.”
LeBlanc served 16 of 16 with three aces and two assists.
She also added 29 digs.
“Emma was playing extra tough on defense,” Webber Heilman said.
“Our setters were being smart to spread out our offense, with Salazar, Alyse Armstrong, LeBlanc and Ella Christiansen leading the way.”
Armstrong had eight digs, six kills and three assists.
Emily Wallner was 21 of 22 on serve, with 14 assists, eight digs, seven kills and four aces.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders rebounded from a penalty-kick shootout loss at Kingston, with a penalty-kick shootout win against the Bulldogs at Civic Field.
After playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation Thursday, Port Angeles outshot North Mason 3-0 on penalty kicks.
It was the first shootout victory in Port Angeles coach Scott Moseley’s six-year tenure, and moves Port Angeles (3-3, 5-4) ahead of North Mason by one point and into fourth place in the Olympic League.
The Riders conceded an early goal to the Bulldogs’ leading scorer Tegan Daviscourt.
“Our main goal was to stop her, and we let her score 90 seconds into the game,” Moseley said.
“After some defensive adjustments, [we] shut Daviscourt down, largely from the defense of Elyse Lovgren and Cami Raber.
“Once Elyse man-marked her, she did not get much of a look at goal.”
Moseley said the Riders came out strong in the second half after switching to a 4-4-2 scheme in a bid for more offense.
Noticing that the Bulldogs’ goalkeeper was playing out too far, junior Maddie Boe hit a 25-yard shot that was just saved.
“The keeper barely saved the ball, but as it was bouncing in front of the goal, freshman forward Sierra Robinson dashed in to head it into the open net, tying the game,” Moseley said.
It was the Riders’ third header goal of the season. Moseley said his teams have had only two total in that in his previous five years at the helm.
Port Angeles’ offense tallied 20 shots on goal, to eight for the Bulldogs.
“A great deal of the success came from the hard work and passing of freshman Emily Boyd, who deftly controlled the midfield in the second half,” Moseley said.
In the shootout, Boe, Raber and Taylar Clark converted their penalty kicks for Port Angeles.
North Mason missed high on its first shot and Riders goalie Zoe Owens saved the final two Bulldogs’ kicks.
“My heart was racing before the kick, but I couldn’t stop smiling after,” Owens said.
Port Angeles hosts North Kitsap (6-0, 7-1-1) on Tuesday.
Chimacum 1, Port Townsend 0
PORT TOWNSEND — The Cowboys’ Mariann Eastwood logged the game’s lone goal in the 44th minute of Saturday’s game.
“The surprise Chimacum goal came at a time when [we] were gaining momentum and was the result of a mistake due to the slick, wet field,” Redhawks coach Colin Foden said.
“It did have the effect of making [us] dominate the rest of the game, hitting the post twice and missing numerous chances.
“It seemed to be one of those games where the bounce does not go your way.”
Foden said Kaitlyn Meek played strong in midfield and attack but was unfortunate not to have scored a number of goals.
“Hannah Marx, Shenoa Snyder and Chloe Dawson formed a formidable strike force but saw countless opportunities miss the target,” Foden said.
“Every player put in their maximum effort, but it was a disappointing loss in a game PT should probably have won.”
Port Townsend 4, Forks 0
PORT TOWNSEND — Kaitlyn Meek notched a first-half hat trick, scoring two goals in the first two minutes for the Redhawks in a nonleague win against the Spartans.
“Kaitlyn Meek was unstoppable and scored her hat-trick on the stroke of halftime,” coach Colin Foden said.
“[The team has] improved hugely in their passing and positional play, but this was an opportunity to score goals,” Foden said.
“Tyler Iseke-Wade struck a beautiful left-foot shot in the 13th minute, and the game was well out of reach.”
Shenoa Snyder and Meek both had spells in goal in Thursday’s game, but Foden said neither looked likely to concede a goal.
Foden also praised Hannah Wilson and McKinzie Ginther for their intelligent play, Rosemary D’Andrea for being rock-solid in defense and Rrutenna Ramires for owning the center of the field.
“It was great to see Shenoa Snyder play such an important role and to watch the speed of Hannah Marx,” Foden said.
“Laura Garcia, the Brazilian exchange student, shows much of the determination and flair of her countrymen. A good win and well-deserved.”

PORT ANGELES — The Riders continued to play well, cruising past the Bulldogs in Olympic League action.
“They played smart and fast, wanting to get the match in with the threat of rain overhead,” Port Angeles coach Gil Stockton said.
Stockton gave the team/match ball to the No. 4 doubles team of Kenny Soule and Keenen Leslie.
[They] have played JV so far this season but improved to the point of playing a varsity match. They won not only their match (in straight sets), but [overcame] their jitters also.
League-leading Sequim (10-1, 11-1) visits Port Angeles (7-4, 9-4) on Monday.
