NEAH BAY — Abraham Venske scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Neah Bay to a nonleague win over Forks 69-46.
“A lot of respect for the Neah Bay team and what they’re doing,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said.
“They play hard, they get after it, they shoot well, they rebound well.”
Venske also dished out four assists in Tuesday’s game.
Kenrick Doherty Jr. added 10 points for the Red Devils, while Reggie Buttram scored eight and Jericho McGimpsey and Jongi Claplanhoo had seven apiece.
Forks, which was without second-leading scorer Parker Browning and post Marky Adams, was led by Colton Raben’s game-high 18 points.
Browning and Adams missed the game due to illness, and it is unknown whether either will return for Friday’s season finale against Montesano (4-8, 8-10).
“Without those two guys, we’re definitely a different ball club,” Gooding said.
Keishaun Ramsey scored six points for the Spartans (2-11, 4-14).
Forks added four JV players to the roster for Tuesday’s game, and all four scored. Daniel Maxfield had three points, while Jake Jacoby, Scott Archibald and Marcis Davis each had two points.
“All four of those kids earned their spot by coming to practice, working hard, having a good attitude,” Gooding said.
Neah Bay finishes its regular season with a road game against Clallam Bay on Friday and a home matchup with Mary M. Knight on Saturday.
The Red Devils (12-2), ranked third in Class 1B, have clinched the North Olympic League title, which advances them to the Class 1B Tri-District tournament. They likely will open the tournament Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Port Angeles High School.
“They have a solid team,” Gooding said of the Red Devils.
“Interesting to see how they do come playoff time, and hopefully they make a little run, so good luck to them.”

BREMERTON — The Roughriders’ postseason hopes are still alive despite their low-scoring loss to Bremerton.
Port Angeles (2-9, 5-14) closes out the regular season Friday at Kingston (2-9, 6-13).
If the Riders win and North Mason (3-8, 8-11) falls to Olympic (9-2, 13-5), then Port Angeles would hold the tiebreaker by virtue of its two-game sweep of North Mason this season.
The Riders’ defense was good enough to win Tuesday, holding Bremerton (5-6, 8-9) to a season-best 34 points, the lowest output by a Port Angeles opponent this season.
Port Angeles’ offense only managed 28 points of its own, though.
“We played very well defensively and we rebounded well,” Riders coach Kasey Ulin said.
“If you told me we would hold them to 34 before the game, I would tell you that we would be leaving with a win.
“Unfortunately . . . we just did not make enough shots when we needed to.”
Port Angeles outscored the Knights 14-8 in the opening quarter, but only added three points in the second, five in the third and six in the fourth.
“If you do that against good teams on the road, that makes things very difficult,” Ulin said.
Hunter Hathaway led the Riders with 15 points and 10 rebounds, despite re-aggravating an ankle injury and playing through pain for most of the fourth quarter.
Lambros Rogers also grabbed 10 boards.
“I cannot say enough of how hard we work and how we continue to fight,” Ulin said.
“For 32 minutes, we scrapped and clawed for loose balls, rebounds. And our kids left everything they had on the floor.
“That is something to says a lot about our kids, and I am extremely proud of them.”

SILVERDALE — The Cowboys claimed the Olympic League 1A Division title by taking a two-game lead over the Eagles with two league games left to play.
Chimacum improves to 6-1 in league play (7-10 overall), while Klahowya falls to 4-3.
The Cowboys won the season series 2-1, so even if they drop their final two games — at Coupeville on Friday and Monday at home against rival Port Townsend — they would win the league by tiebreaker.
Chimacum held Klahowya to 11 points in the second half, including only three in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys switched to a 2-3 zone, which cut off the Eagles’ penetration and turned them into 3-point shooters.
That didn’t go so well for Klahowya. Nine of the Eagles’ 11 second-half points game by way of the 3-point shot, while the other two game on a putback after a missed 3-pointer.
Orion Weller led Chimacum with 14 points, while John Carthum had 13, and Brendan Naylor and Chris Bainbridge each contributed 10.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders limited the Knights to six second-half points to move up to fourth place in the Olympic League 2A Division.
Port Angeles (5-6, 9-10) can maintain the fourth place with an upset of Kingston (10-1, 16-2), which is tied for first in the league, on Friday at 7 p.m.
With a loss Friday, the Riders would be tied with Sequim (5-7, 9-11). The rivals split the season series.
Port Angeles scored only 13 points in the first half of Tuesday’s game, but still held a two-point lead at intermission.
The Riders pulled away from the Knights with a 15-2 third quarter that was followed by a 10-4 final period.
“We struggled in the first half with our offense against Bremerton’s zone, did not move the ball effectively, did not shoot well,” Port Angeles coach Michael Poindexter said.
“Our second-half offensive execution clearly improved, as did our full-court pressure. Emily Johnson was particularly effective, getting many of her eight steals off our press.”
Sophomore Nizhoni Weeler led Port Angeles with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Maddie Boe finished with nine points, four steals and three assists, and Hayley Baxley had six rebounds and four points.

After that, the Red Devils will play in the Class 1B Tri-District tournament, likely at Port Angeles High School on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

CHIMACUM — The Cowboys rolled to a 12-0 lead on the Eagles after one quarter and a 32-10 halftime advantage.
“Tonight was good for the girls,” Chimacum coach Trevor Huntingford said of Tuesday’s game.
“They jumped out early with excellent defense, shared the ball well and we shot the ball better than we have been lately.
“I think it shows a lot about how we can play when we are all in from the jump.”
Kiersten Snyder and Michelle Nisbet tied for the game-high in points with 14 apiece.
“Michelle Nisbet was outstanding on defense again, and she and Kiersten both played well offensively,” Huntingford said.
“Bailey Castillo and Alice Yaley both played well tonight also. Really, as a team, there was really no letdown from our bench all night. A real team win.”
Chimacum (2-5, 3-14) is tied with Port Townsend (2-5, 2-15) for the final Olympic League 1A playoff berth.
The Cowboys visit league champ Coupeville on Friday, while the Redhawks travel to Klahowya.
Chimacum and Port Townsend meet Monday at Chimacum in the regular season finale for each team.

Sequim at divisional meet
PORT ANGELES — The Wolves qualified diver Matthew Craig and the four-member 200-free relay team for the district tournament
“[Craig’s] a freshman and so this is really a fantastic accomplishment,” Sequim coach Linda Moats said after Tuesday’s divisional meet at Williams Shore Memorial Pool.
Craig finished fourth overall.
The 200-free relay team of Eric Prosser, Charlie Prosser, Christian Goodrich and Chase Ridgway finished third.
“They were close before, but today, they put the pedal to the metal and pulled out a qualifying time,” Moats said.
“We are all very excited. Charlie, Christian and Chase each swam a second faster on their 50, and Eric Prosser swam a 23.55 second 50 free leg.
“That’s his fastest time for the 50 this year. Overall, they improved their previous best time by over 5 seconds.”
