PREP SWIMMING: Port Angeles bumps Kingston for third-place finish in highly competitive Olympic League

SEQUIM — Port Angeles boys swimmers beat Kingston 94-76, guaranteeing them a winning season in the Olympic League and a third-place finish in the league standings.

The Roughriders (4-2 in Olympic League) won the 200 freestyle relay — made up of Taylor Martin, Alex Che, Josh Krzysiak and Josh Gavin — in a time of 1 minutes, 40.68 seconds and the 400 freestyle relay — Krzysiak, Gavin, Alex Hertzog and Martin — in a time of 3:49.15.

Other wins for the Roughriders were in the 100 backstroke with a 1-2-3 finish for Port Angeles. Martin took first with a time of 1:02.64, Hertzog was second at 1:04.59 and Adam Boyd third at 1:10.86.

New district qualifiers include Boyd in the 200 freestyle and Henry Shaw in the 200 individual medley.

Port Angeles swimmers compete at divisionals Friday with swimmers who haven’t already qualified for district getting one last chance to post qualifying times.

Tuesday’s meet was a rescheduled meet due to snow earlier this month.

North Kitsap 126, Sequim 32

POULSBO — The Wolves went up against one of the toughest teams in the state Tuesday.

Sequim wasn’t able to win any events, but the Wolves picked up a number of second-place finishes.

Kaleb Needoba had the best individual showing for Sequim, second in the 500 freestyle in 5 minutes, 31.13 seconds.

The Wolves picked up three second-place finishes in relay events. In the 200 medley relay, the team of Jordan Hurdlow, Will Plasch, Needoba and Myles Tadlock came in second with a time of 2:06.47. In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Tadlock, Plasch, Rane Forcinel and Jesse Bobst came in second with a time of 1:52.60.

In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Needoba, David Melcer, Forcinel and Bobst finished second with a time of 4:12.52.

Sequim (2-4 in Olympic League) swimmers compete at divisionals Friday with swimmers who haven’t already qualified for district getting one last chance to post qualifying times.
