PREP TRACK: East Jefferson’s Yearian, Fraser dominate distance events ‘Twilight in the ‘Ham’

Sequim relay teams sweep in dual with Bremerton

BELLINGHAM — Going up against athletes from some 2A and 3A schools, East Jefferson’s Aaliyah Cassidy Yearian and Fiona Fraser dominated the distance events at the Twilight in the ‘Ham track and field meet in Bellingham on Friday night.

Yearian won the 800 in 2 minutes, 22.62 seconds, besting 27 other runners and the 1,600 in 5:15.46, doing even better by beating 35 other runners. Fraser won the 3,200 in 11:14.77, beating the second-place runner from 15 seconds.

Ellise Gardner also had an impressive meet, finishing second in the javelin with a throw of 99 feet, 8 inches. Sienna Emerson had a seventh-place finish in the javelin with a distance of 83-11.

Another top 10 finish was turned in by Kaida Rodrigues, who finished 10th in the triple jump with a distance of 29-8¼.

Among the boys, Reid Martin had the top finish for the Rivals, coming in second in the javelin with a throw of 149-8.

Soare Johnson was 10th in the 3,200 with a time of 10:20.97.

Sequim at Bremerton

BREMERTON — The Sequim boys and girls track squads swept all five team relay events in a dual meet against Bremerton.

The girls swept three events. The 4×100 team of Yuri Hayashi, Bailey Stein, Lexi Greenleaf and Libby Turella won in a time of 57.71 the 4×200 squad of Kaitlyn Bloomenrader, Ivy Barrett, Bridget Pyeatt and Stein won in 1:54.64 and the 4×400 team of Pyeatt, Dawn Hulstedt, Ava Shinkle and Madysen Salazer won in a time of 4:46.89.

The boys 4×100 team of Ari Skov, Sean Southard, Cayden Beauregard and Meikel Hagedorn took first in 47.52, while the 4×400 team of Reid Randall, Adrian Osborne, Beauregard and Colby Ellefson won in 3:53.96.

Overall, the Bremerton boys outpointed Sequim 89-56, while the Bremerton girls edge Sequim 75-66.

Individual boys’ winners for the Wolves were Randall, just a freshman, in the 800 with a time of 2:27.83. Ellefson, one of the team’s long-distance veterans won the 3,200 in 10:43.58. Tom Laschet won the 300 hurdles in 47.04.

In the field events, Southard won the javelin with a throw of 139-4, Malachi Byrne took first in the high jump at 5-2 and Ari Skov won the pole vault at 10-6.

Individual girls’ winners included Barrett in the 100 in 13.64. She just edged Bloomenrader, who was second at 13.83.

Bloomenrader won the 800 in the time of 2:34.87 and Aspen Goldner won the 3,200 in 14:53.08.

In field events, Clare Turella took first in the high jump at 4-10 and Ahrya Klinger won the pole vault at 8-0.

Forks, Neah Bay at North Beach

NORTH BEACH — Forks’ Noah Foster, Nate Dahlgren and Sloan Tumaua, and Neah Bay’s Ryana Moss were winners at a Pacific 2B League track and field meet in North Beach.

Foster won the 400 meters in Thursday’s meet in a time of 56.62 seconds, while Dahlgren won the shot put with a distance of 40-3. Tumaua won the discus with a throw of 143-3, beating Dahlgren’s solid second-place throw by 28 feet.

Moss, who was still playing basketball last week, won the 300 hurdles in a time of 53.9 and the 1,600-meter run in 6:14.84.

Forks picked up a first-place finish from its 4×400 relay team. The squad of Moli Luong, Caitlynn Cooney, Kendall Marshall and Natalie Horejsi won in a time of 5:35.32.
