PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Port Angeles seeking third-place finish in Olympic 2A

The Riders beat North Mason and may have to play a tiebreaker for third place in Port Townsend.

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles beat North Mason 3-1 to remain in third place in the Olympic League 2A Division’s volleyball standings.

The 25-17, 25-13, 25-27 25-18 win Monday puts the Roughriders at 6-5 in league.

Port Angeles played Tuesday (late) against undefeated North Kitsap. If the team ends up tied for third with Kingston (currently 5-6), the Riders will play at 6:15 p.m. today in a tiebreaker with the Buccaneers at Port Townsend, a neutral court.

Kiana Robideau led the team with nine kills, seven digs and three aces against the Bulldogs.

Aeverie Politika had six kills and Callie Hall 12 assists. Nizhoni Wheeler had a good all-around game with three kills, four aces and 25-for-28 serving.

Alyssa Sweet had 10 digs, while Brennan Gray added nine digs and three aces.

Sequim 3, Kingston 0

SEQUIM — The Sequim volleyball team clinched second place in the Olympic League 2A Division with a 3-0 sweep of the Buccaneers.

The Wolves (9-2, 11-2) won Monday 25-23, 25-8, 25-23.

Sydney Balkan had four aces, four kills and four assists, while Adrienne Haggerty had a good all-around match with five kills, five blocks, three aces and eight digs. Lillian Oden had nine assists, two aces and served a perfect 12-for-12. Tayler Breckenridge had four kills, seven digs and served a perfect 15-for-15. Maddie Potts added seven digs.

As the Olympic No. 2 seed, the Wolves will play the No. 3 seed at 9 a.m. Saturday at North Kitsap High School. That could be Port Angeles or Kingston. If the Wolves win, they will play for the league tournament championship at 3 p.m. If they lose, they’ll play at 1 p.m.

North Kitsap is undefeated in Olympic League play, but if the Wolves do play them for Olympic championship, the Wolves have shown they can play the Vikings pretty tough.

Sequim took North Kitsap to five sets in their last match and lost 15-13 in the deciding set.

Forks 3, Tenino 0

TENINO — The Spartans swept the Beavers in an Evergreen League 1A match 25-14,25-14,25-21, to keep alive Forks’ shot at the league’s second seed to district play.

The Spartans (3-3, 9-4) stayed in third place with the win.

Bailey Queen led the Spartans with four kills and three blocks, while Jayden Olsen had four kills and Julia Lausche had 15 assists. Rian Peters had three kills.

Forks played Montesano, which is undefeated in league, Tuesday night.

The Spartans will then have what will likely be a critical match with Elma at home Thursday.

Elma is 4-2 in league and played 2-4 Hoquiam Tuesday.

If the Grizzlies beat the Eagles, and Forks beats Elma, the Spartans will end up tied for second place in the Evergreen 1A.

Klahowya 3, Chimacum 0

SILVERDALE — The Chimacum Cowboys didn’t play their match until 8 p.m. because of delays at the Hood Canal Bridge and a fire alarm, and came away with a 3-0 loss on the road against Klahowya.

The Eagles won 25-17, 25-12, 25-7.

“Well…it just wasn’t in the cards for our Cowboy Volleyball team last night,” said coach James Shingleton.

“Needless to say, we were flat from our opening serve,” he said.

Mechelle Nisbet led Chimacum (3-4, 6-8) in kills. Shingleton said that defensively, Nisbet and Ericka Lindren were standouts.

The Cowboys visit rival Port Townsend on Thursday.

Quilcene 3, Mount Rainier Lutheran 0

TACOMA — The Rangers wrapped up its regular season undefeated with a win on the road against Mount Rainier Lutheran.

Quilcene (11-0, 14-0) beat the Hawks 25-11, 25-12, 25-7 while serving an impressive 69-for-70 in the match.

Allison Jones led the Rangers with 15 assists, while Bailey Kieffer had nine aces and served 15-for-15.

Katie Bailey served 21-for-21 with three aces.

Emily Hitt led the Rangers with 11 kills, while Katie Love served 21-for-22 with eight kills. Freshman Abbygael Weller had 17 digs and served 5-for-5.

“With the return of Katie Love, and moving some players to different positions over the last week, [we] improved both [our] offense and defense, which showed in this game. Communication still needs a little work as the athletes adjust to their new positions, but they were making fast adjustments out on the court,” said coach Joni Crowell.

Quilcene hosts Northwest Yeshiva and Pope John Paul tonight in a SeaTac League Tournament game. The Rangers will play the winner afterward.
