TUMWATER — Going up against mostly 2A, 3A and 4A schools, the 2B Forks wrestling squad came in second at the Pat Alexander Invitational.
Forks won four weight divisions and finished with 180 team points, second only to 2A W.F. West’s 189.5. There were 14 teams at the tournament.
Winning their weight divisions for the third straight tournament were Spartans Matthew Montes at 106 pounds and Jake Weakley at 160 pounds. Forks’ Hayden Queen also came in first at 182 pounds and his teammate Sloan Tumaua won the 220-pound weight division.
Montes beat his teammate Abraham Montealeague with a pin in the championship match of their division, as Montealeague picked up a second place.
The Spartans had a number of second-place finishes as three other Forks wrestlers made their championship matches. Conner Demorest finished second at 120 pounds, Dalton Kilmer was second at 132 and Conner Early was second at 195.
Walker Rondeau finished third at 132 and William Perez was fourth at 138.
For junior varsity, Jon Parker Jr. won his weight division at 165-169 and for the Forks girls, Peyton Johnson was first at 115-117 pounds.
Forks does not wrestle again until the Battle For The Axe meet, scheduled Jan. 8 in Port Angeles.
