PREPS: Lexie Smith hits two homers in Riders’ win over Sequim

PORT ANGELES — Senior Lexie Smith belted two home runs — including a grand slam — as the Port Angeles Roughriders rolled past rival Sequim 18-1 in five innings Wednesday at Dry Creek Elementary School.

The Roughriders notched 14 hits, chasing Wolves starting pitcher Rylin Whitehead with one out in the first inning.

Smith opened the game with a two-run shot in the first and added her grand slam as the Riders wrapped the game with a four-run fourth.

Lynzee Reid pitched two clean innings with a strikeout to earn the win, and Sophia Ritchie scattered three hits and a walk with a strikeout and a run in three innings.

Abby Kimball reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with two walks and four RBIs.

Ava-Anne Sheahan was 2-for-3 with a double and drove in three runs; Mikkiah Stevens went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Ritchie tripled.

Kennedy Rognlien also drove in a pair of runs for Port Angeles (3-0, 6-1-1).

The Riders host Bremerton on Monday.

Sequim (0-2, 1-4) hosts North Kitsap on Monday.

Titans take two

PE ELL — Forks dropped a pair of Pacific League softball contests, 8-5 and 18-5, to Pacific League foe Pe Ell/Willapa Valley on the road Wednesday.

It was the first losses of the season for the Spartans in the team’s first game back since March 25.

Forks had trouble in the field, committing nine errors in game one and three more in the second contest.

Avery Dilley singled home a run and walked twice for the Spartans, and Kendyl Woody drove in a run.

Bailey Johnson doubled in the second game, her second of the day, and went 2-for-2 with a walk, two runs and an RBI.

Forks (6-2) visits North Beach on Tuesday.

Baseball PWV wins pair

FORKS — Forks was a little rusty, committing 12 errors across 5-1 and 10-4 losses to Pe Ell/Willapa Valley as the Spartans returned to the field for their first games since March 25.

Landen Olson was the hard-luck losing pitcher in the first game, allowing three runs on just one hit with six walks and six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched.

The Titans chased Olson with a one-out walk in the top of the seventh and added three runs, two off Mason Dent.

Olson had two hits, a walk and was hit by a pitch, scoring the Spartans’ lone run.

Forks trailed 6-0 before getting on the board in the second game.

Cole Barajas led Forks at the plate with a double and a run scored in the nightcap.

Jeremy Hutto also drove in a run with a single and a walk for Forks (2-3).

The Spartans will play Crosspoint at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds in Bremerton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
