SEQUIM — Sequim scored inside the first five minutes and the Wolves went on to cruise to a 5-0 Olympic League girls soccer win over Olympic at home Thursday.
“We played great as a team,” coach Haley Sue Freeman said. “Our offense and midfield really shined, and our back line held it down for us.”
Kiley Winter converted on a penalty kick in the fourth minute after being taken down by the Trojans in the left corner of the field.
“We had a few exceptional players — Kiley Winter played on every line and was eager to keep in the game. She scored our first goal of the night, setting us up for success. She has a great team mentality and will do what is best for the team,” Freeman said.
Winter also recorded assists on two other Sequim scores.
Sasha Yada had a pair of goals to lead the Wolves.
“Our other goals were from Sasha Yada, Raimey Brewer and Ruby Moxley-Horgan,” Freeman said. “They all brought offensive power and charisma to the game.”
Harper Moore and Laila Sundin also recorded assists in the win.
Kalli Grove earned the shutout in goal.
Sequim (4-6) visits rival Port Angeles (6-5, 6-6) in a crucial Olympic League contest at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Roughriders edged Sequim 3-2 in overtime in September.
North Kitsap 1, Port Angeles 0
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders produced one of their best performances of the season in a tight loss to the Vikings, ranked No. 7 in Class 2A RPI.
“We played really well all over the field,” coach Daniel Horton said.
“North Kitsap is at the top of the league for a reason. They don’t need a lot of mishaps on our part to hurt us. And they scored in the ninth minute when we didn’t quite clear the ball. And it was a battle after that with us trying to scratch and claw and get back in it.
“We talked about it after the game. It was unfortunate, we didn’t clear it wide or with distance, but that didn’t cost us the game because we still had opportunities. We were still in it from start to finish.”
Horton said the team’s play improved as the game wore on.
“We took a lot of great shots, put together a lot of good combinations to get shots on offense, and we were limiting North Kitsap to a lot of deep shots in the second half defensively,” Horton said.
“We felt if we had a few more minutes, we would have tied it. We were pushing down the field on them. Honestly, it was an overall good game by everybody. Really starting to grow and gel. Everybody pitched and did their part.”
The Riders (6-5, 6-6) had 13 shots, 10 on goal, while goalkeeper Kennedy Rognlien had 12 saves in the contest.

PORT TOWNSEND — Rayna Pray and senior Kay Botkin scored for the Rivals in a senior night contest.
“Rayna Pray made it 2-1 before halftime, finished 1-on-1 versus the keeper after Kay put her through,” coach Rob Cantley said.
Botkin’s goal pulled the Rivals within 3-2.
“Kay got her senior night goal assisted by Sarah Fisher coming in from the right with Kay shooting across the goalkeeper into the corner,” Cantley said.
Cantley said Macy Little ran hard in midfield and Zinnia Blatchely made a lot of tackles in the defensive midfield.
East Jefferson (0-4, 1-10) visits Klahowya today.

PORT ANGELES — The Riders were swept in a home loss to the second-place Vikings.
Port Angeles coach Alyssa Wetzler was home with an illness but watched the game’s live stream.
“The energy from the bench was top-notch and the girls’ chemistry is growing each day,” Wetzler said. “They had multiple blocks, kills, aces and digs. Many great rallies. I sure wish I could’ve been there with my team, but they continue to make me proud.”
