POULSBO — The second-place Roughriders couldn’t pull off the upset of the undefeated Vikings on Thursday.
“Our guys really competed and tried to give North some trouble, but this is the best Class 2A team I’ve seen in a long time,” said coach Brian Gundersen. “We’ll finish up our regular season next week with a couple of matches versus Kingston and Sequim and start preparing for the post-season.
The Riders, now 10-2, have senior night on Tuesday against Kingston.

KINGSTON — The Riders shook off a rough opening set and played together in a 25-9, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20 loss to the Buccaneers.
“I think we did a better job of understanding we work as a team and even through there’s six onthe court it takes all 13 of them to support each other,” coach Alyssa Wetzler said. “Moving into the second, third and fourth sets, we were able to wash away our bad plays and back each other up.”
Wetzler said setter Josephine Edgington was a standout.
“She’s always super supportive and celebrates each play and she had some great serves and two aces last night,” Wetzler said. “She also had some great digs and a solo block.”
Natalie Tenneson was the Riders’ top blocker.
“She had at least three solo blocks and a couple of digs in the middle back defensively, which is impressive for her to stay back on defense and get those passes up,” Wetzler said.
“Jazzmen Murray did a wonderful job on defense, she was in the right spots defensively playing in the right back.
“Kenzi Moses played libero for the first time in varsity match and she held her own.”
