JOYCE — Youth-filled track and field teams from Neah Bay, Crescent and Clallam Bay met Wednesday in Joyce at the third North Olympic League track meet of the season.
Neah Bay edged Crescent 52-46 with Clallam Bay posting 28 points in the girls team competition.
Freshman phenoms Angel Haltunnen of Neah Bay and Naomii Sprague of Crescent continued their season-long string of duels in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. Sprague, who won the 100 at last Saturday’s Lions Club Invitational in Forks, triumphed again Wednesday in 14.0 seconds to Haltunnen’s 14.1. Halttunen beat out the 200 in Forks last Saturday and edged Sprague 28.53 to 28.54 in the 200.
Halttunen also joined with eighth-graders Alexa Greene, Brianna McGimpsey and freshman Cerise Moss to win the 4×100 relay in 57.52, and swapped Greene for junior Ryana Moss and picked up another Red Devils’ win in the 4×200 relay.
And Neah Bay made it a relay sweep with McGimpsey, the Moss sisters and Bethany McKee winning the 4×400.
Cerise Moss set a season’s best distance (85 feet, 8 inches) to claim the javelin by 3 feet over McGimpsey.
Sprague also was second in the long jump for the Loggers.
Crescent freshman Alexis Dunavant won the discus with a throw of 80-10 and also set personal records in the 100 (third in 15.01) and the shot put (second at 27-8).
Sophomore Katelyn Dunavant broke her own best throw to win the shot put (28-8) for the Loggers.
Clallam Bay eighth-grader Lilliana Scordino set a personal record of 14-3 to win the crowded long jump competition.
The hosts won the boys team contest with 64 points; Neah Bay had 37 and Clallam Bay 29.
Crescent’s field athletes had a big day.
Titus White was a two-event winner, taking the javelin by 35-plus feet (127-9) and the shot put (40-6).
Conner Ferro-May set a personal record in winning the discus (133-3).

Clallam Bay junior Jose Jimmicum (13.02) edged Neah Bay’s Christopher Hottowe (13.03) in a tightly contested 100 sprint.

BAINBRIDGE — Home course advantage was of prime importance as the Roughriders came close to knocking off the Spartans in a nine-hole match that essentially decided the Olympic League championship.
Edun Bailey led Port Angeles (5-1) with a round of 42, Phoenix Flores posted a 43, Nate Anderson a 45 and Austin Worthington had 48.
Bainbridge’s Andrew Jobes was match medalist with a 2-over-par 38.
“Well, we cleared the first hurdle of Kingston this week, but we weren’t able to clear the second hurdle of Bainbridge [Wednesday],” Port Angeles coach Bob Anderson said. “Wing Point is a beautiful private course that has a couple holes that can eat you up. I think our team put up some respectable scores considering we’ve only played the course once before, yet we just couldn’t keep up with the Bainbridge boys, who are good golfers and definitely know their course well.
“Now we set our sights on the remaining golf in our season and qualifying for the state tourney.”
Port Angeles hosts the Duke Streeter Invitational on Tuesday at Peninsula Golf Club.

ALLYN — Zack Thompson shot a career-low 37 to earn match medalist honors and spark the Wolves to a win at Lakeland Village Golf Course.
“Zack made one birdie, two bogeys and a whole bunch of pars,” coach Sean O’Mera said. “Zack works so hard on his game. It is really fun to see him reap the rewards of consistent effort, great attitude and pure determination.”
Cody Dunscomb added a 47, Kyle Sharpe a 49 and Lars Wiker a 50 to round out the Sequim scores.
