RHODY RUN: Nearly 900 runners take to Port Townsend streets

PORT TOWNSEND — Nearly 900 runners took on the 2024 Jefferson Healthcare 44th annual Rhody Run 5K and 10K races, with competitors as young as 2 years old in their strollers and 90 years old.

Winning the 10K was a familiar name and veteran of local 5Ks and 10K, Seamus Fraser of Port Townsend. He took first in a time of 33 minutes, 39.87 seconds. Second was Nathan Ennist of Seattle in a time of 35.08.56 and third was Ryan Clarke of Port Townsend in a time of 35.52.

Winning the 5K was Stuart Howard-Smith in a time of 19:36.91. Second place was 13-year-old Leyton Larson of Port Angeles in a time of 20:47.4 and third was Josh Grady of Poulsbo in 22:01.9.

For the women, Larissa Kolasinski of Issaquah was first in the 10K in a time of 38:05.2, good for seventh overall. Camille Shiflett of Quilcene was second among the women with a time of 40:28.29 and Meg Klein of Fircrest was third at 43:54.37.

In the women’s 5K, 13-year-old Josie Axling of Port Townsend won with a time of 24:58.31. That was good for eighth overall. Lena Curtis of Port Townsend was second in 24:59.52 and H. Breckel (full names are not available from the timing company for children 12 and younger) of Port Townsend was third at 25:24.

A total of 489 runners competed in the 10K and another 388 in the 5K.

The event was put on with the help of Port Townsend police, East Jefferson fire and rescue, the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club, the Port Townsend Marathon Association Board, announcer Angela Gyurko from the League of Women Voters, the East Jefferson Rivals football, golf, cross country and track teams, the Broken Spoke team doing bicycle pacing, the Kiwanis, Recovery Cafe/Dove House and Rotary Club, Brinnon/Quilcene Dollars for Scholars, Jumping Mouse Children’s Center.
