BLYN — The final race of the Run the Peninsula series will take place on the Olympic Discovery Trail between Blyn and Sequim on Saturday for the sixth annual Jamestown S’Klallam 5K/10K Glow Run.
The event is sold out with more than 600 participants signed up to run and walk in the twilight and dark on the Olympic Peninsula Trail. The event is famous for the bright lights and atmosphere at the start/finish line at 7 Cedars Casino. The race will begin near dusk at 4:30 p.m.
The event is put on by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, the same group that manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon in June in Port Angeles and other Run the Peninsula races such as the Elwha Bridge run in February, the Sequim Railroad run in April and the new Spruce Railroad Trail run in October.
The event is made possible by title sponsors Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette and presenting sponsors the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the Olympic Medical Center.
Proceeds from this event go to several local organizations including the Peninsula Trails Coalition, which builds and maintains the Olympic Discovery Trail.
There is no parking at the start/finish area. Participants can be dropped off at the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe bus stop nearby. Shuttles for participants and spectators will be running continuously from the 7 Cedars Casino back upper lot
Drivers in the area are to be cautioned that there will be runners and walkers on the trail in the dark. Participants are required to wear a headlamp or some other type of lighting device.
The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe 5K/10K has been permitted by Clallam County to control traffic at trail intersections with county roads, effectively giving pedestrians right-of-way for the race. Motorists should be prepared to stop at the following intersections from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.:
• Old Blyn Highway and Olympic Discovery Trail.
• Dawley Road (ODT shares this road for a stretch).
• Schoolhouse Point Lane and ODT.
• Schindler Road and ODT.
• Barker Road and ODT.
