QUILCENE — Bailey Kieffer replaced Sammy Rae on the mound and on the ballots of the SeaTac League coaches.
Kieffer, Quilcene’s junior pitcher, has been voted SeaTac softball MVP, and award won by Rae, the Rangers’ previous ace, in 2015.
Kieffer helped Quilcene claim its second straight third-place trophy at the Class 1B state tournament last month. She compiled an 18-3 record with 179 strikeouts, only 22 walks and a 1.70 ERA. She also had a .309 batting average.
Quilcene, which won the SeaTac championship also received the league’s team sportsmanship award.
Kieffer was one of five Rangers to be picked for the all-league first team, including sophomore catcher Erin Macedo finished the season with a slash line of .576/.674/.939 (batting average/on-base percentage/slugging percentage) and 43 RBIs.
“Best defensive catcher I saw this year,” Rangers coach Mark Thompson said.
Also making the first team for Quilcene were seniors Megan Weller and Alex Johnsen and junior Katie Bailey.
Rangers junior Allison Jones was selected to the second team.
