SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Port Angeles caps off unbeaten regular season; Sequim tops Kingston

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders knocked off the Knights 11-1 to cap a second consecutive undefeated regular season.

Thursday’s win was the 36th consecutive regular-season victory and 23rd straight Olympic League 2A victory for the three-time defending league champions.

The league win streak dates back to an 8-5 loss to Sequim in a first-place tiebreaker game on May 16, 2014.

The Riders (12-0, 20-0) recognized their three seniors, Jaidyn Larson, Hope Wegener and Hunter-Anne Coburn as they played their last game on the fields at Dry Creek Elementary School.

“All three seniors contributed with hits, runs and outstanding pitching,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said.

Wegener and Coburn combined on a six-hitter on the mound in the win.

Wegener went four innings allowing one run on four hits, walking none and striking out four. She also went 2 for 2 at the plate with three RBIs and a run.

Coburn closed out the contest, allowing two hits and striking out one in two innings. Offensively, she was 1 for 4 and scored a run.

Larson went 2 for 4, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs.

Taylar Clark was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI for the Riders, while Sierra Robinson drove in a run and stole a base.

Natalie Steinman tripled and Nikaila Price had an RBI double.

The Riders will open the District 2/3 Tournament against Franklin Pierce (7-11) at Sprinker Fields in Tacoma on Friday at noon.

KINGSTON — The Wolves stayed in the running for second place in the Olympic League 2A Division by edging the Buccaneers.

McKenzie Bentz tossed a four-hitter for Sequim, allowing two runs and striking out five while no giving up a walk.

She also stole two bases and drove in a pair of runs.

Jordan Bentz went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for the Wolves, and Emily Copeland and Allysen Montelius each doubled.

The Wolves (8-3, 15-4) will open the district tournament at Sprinker Fields in Tacoma on Friday.
