SEQUIM — Sequim will be participating in the newly formed North Olympic Youth Football League, which is offering tackle football to youngsters.

Erik Wiker, the Sequim High School head football coach, announced the formation of the new Sequim Wolf Pack youth football teams.

“The Sequim Wolf Pack will offer adult-supervised tackle football for Sequim youth ages 6 through 12,” Wiker said.

The league includes teams from Port Angeles, Sequim, Port Townsend, Chimacum, Forks and Neah Bay.

Sequim Wolf Pack has a founding board of directors that includes Dick Hughes, Phil Langston, Cheri Lott, David McHugh, Kathy Schock, Ken Warren and Wiker.

Warren was elected president, Wiker vice president, Schock secretary, and McHugh treasurer.

The Wolf Pack will include teams for ages 6 through 8 (prep), 9 and 10 (JV) and 11 and 12, varsity.

Warren will oversee the business of the nonprofit corporation while Wiker will manage the coaching staff of the three teams.

All coaches will undergo background checks and be required to complete football-specific first-aid training.

The board has adopted a policy to assure that play time will be given as equally as possible to each participant, Wiker said.

“All the officers, directors and coaches serve without pay, but we still need to raise more than $40,000 for uniforms, insurance and expenses for the first year,” McHugh said.

The board is trying to keep fees at approximately $150 per player for this coming season.

“We really need the community to come behind this for the kids,” Warren said. “After all, that is what this is all about.”

The new Sequim Wolf Pack will have a meeting for parents and anyone interested at the Sequim High School cafeteria from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19.
