SPORTS: Andrus scores four goals for Port Angeles soccer team

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Angeles sophomore Miki Andrus had an even better first-ever high school boys soccer game than was reported in Monday’s Peninsula Daily News.

Because of an error on the original scoring sheet submitted to the PDN, it was reported that Andrus had scored a hat trick, or three goals, against the Port Townsend Redskins in the Andy Palmer Memorial Scholarship Benefit game played at Memorial Field on Saturday.

Andrus scored four goals in the game that was won 6-5 by the Redskins in sudden-death overtime.

Andrus scored his first three goals in the first half as the teams battled to a 3-3 deadlock at halftime.

The sophomore pushed through his fourth goal in the second half as the teams tied 5-all at the end of regulation. He also had an assist in the game.

“It was cool I guess, but disappointing to lose,” Andrus said about his first high school performance.

Port Townsend’s Daniel Charlton also scored four goals in the game.

Brady Arthur of Port Townsend ended the game with a goal in the first couple of minutes of sudden-death overtime.

“It was a tough way to lose,” Port Angeles coach Chris Saari said.

“We had battled back from multiple deficits to take the game to overtime.”

Rasmus Aadeli also scored a goal for the Roughriders while Abinet Hayden and Spencer May dished out assists.

Andrus was named the offensive player of the match for Port Angeles while goalkeeper Jack Doryland was selected as defensiver player and Hayden received transition player honors.

The Riders next host rival Sequim today at 6:45 p.m. at Civic Field.

Forks drops doubleheader

FORKS — The Spartans had a tough opening weekend against North Mason but had some good individual performances in the nonleague games.

The Bulldogs won 15-1 in the first game that went five innings, and 15-4 in the second that went six innings.

Brett Pederson had the team’s only extra-base hit with a triple in the third inning.

In the second game, the Spartans scored four runs on five hits. Ollie Sampson was 2 for 2 while Reece Moody and Reece Hagen both went 1 for 2 with an RBI each.

Reis Lawson worked three innings on the mound, striking out four.
