SPORTS: Both Crescent boys and girls basketball teams win loser-out games, advance to Tri-District tourney

JOYCE — Both the Crescent boys and girls basketball teams are headed to the Class 1B Tri-District tournament after winning loser-out pigtail games at home Monday night.

The Crescent girls beat Quilcene 33-18 to make it back to the playoffs for the first time in 10 years while the Logger boys defeated Lopez Island 45-30.

Both teams jumped from the frying pan into the district fire, at least it’s double-elimination, on Tuesday night.

Results were unavailable as the boys took on Mount Rainier Christian and the girls played Northwest Yeshiva in the first round.

On Monday, Sara Moore swished in 17 points to spark the Logger girls over fellow North Olympic Peninsula school Quilcene.

“We started out really slow,” Crescent coach Brian Scott said.

The Loggers led just 12-11 at the break but a 12-2 third quarter broke the game open.

Crescent ended up outscoring the Rangers 21-7 in the second half.

“We came out in the second half with the press, and from there we increased our lead,” Scott said.

Samantha Rae led the Rangers with 10 points.
