SPORTS BRIEF: Fun run/hike set through Forks forests

FORKS — Want to help christen a new trail through thick woods with a distinctly vampirish atmosphere? Sign up for the Victoria’s Army 5K and 2.5K hike and fun run Sept. 15 on the newly built Department of Natural Resources Reade Hill Trail behind the Forks Visitors Center.

The event is sponsored by the Forks Community Hospital United Way Committee. Participants can register from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 14 at Fern Acres at 1154 Big Burn Place in Forks or on race day Sept. 15 at the event starting line from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The cost is $10 due at registration, with all proceeds going to the United Way of Clallam County. The first 240 people who register will receive medals.

Reade Hill Trail is a well-maintained trail with rooty areas, steep hills and rocks, so the the trail requires good hiking boots or tennis shoes. The run and fun walk will have uphill areas.

This is not a timed event and there’s no aid station. There’s no parking at the trailhead, but some parking will be available at the Forks Airport where people can carpool to the starting line.
