SPORTS BRIEF: Turkey Trot set for Nov. 18

PORT TOWNSEND — The sixth annual Turkey Trot and 1 mile kids’ dash will take place Nov. 18 on the Larry Scott Trail in Port Townsend.

This year’s event is sponsored by Kitsap Bank. Proceeds will go to the Jumping Mouse Children’s Center to provide mental health care for children in Jefferson County.

The kids’ dash is for children 9 and under and begins at 9 a.m. The 5k begins at 9:30 a.m. on a certified course. Both races start at the Port Townsend boatyard trailhead of the Larry Scott Trail. Cocoa, coffee and treats will be available with prizes at the finish line.

Jumping Mouse provides expressive mental health therapy for as long as necessary to children ages 2-12 in east Jefferson County. To keep therapy services accessible to all in need, the center relies on community and foundation support.

There are special senior (65 and older) and student (17 and younger) rates of $15 for signing up for the race. Groups of three or more can preregister for a 15 percent family discount.

Race day registration begins at 8:30 a.m. or participants can pre-register at www.jumpingmouse.org.
