SPORTS BRIEFS: Icy roads force prep sports postponements

PORT ANGELES — Several Tuesday night prep sports events were postponed because of icy road conditions.

A wrestling meet between North Kitsap and Port Angeles in Port Angeles was postponed, as well as boys’ and girls’ basketball games in Joyce between Crescent and Quilcene. A junior varsity basketball game between Port Angeles and Forks was also postponed.

Boys and girls’ basketball games in Forks between the Spartans and Lake Quinault last night were still scheduled to be played as Lake Quinault comes from a different route than Port Angeles.

A Crescent at Stevens Middle School game Tuesday was postponed.

A number of local sporting events are scheduled for tonight. Port Angeles Athletic Director Dwayne Johnson said the Wedneday night games“are on go status” at this time, and he will make the final call on those games at noon today.

The Port Angeles basketball boys are scheduled to travel to North Mason tonight and the girls team is scheduled to host North Mason at 7 p.m.

Soccer registration

SEQUIM — Registration for the Sequim FC Indoor Soccer League is open through Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The coed soccer league hosts games for youth ages 9 to 11, 12 to 15 and ages 16 and older (Sequim FC Adult League).

The season will run from January to March with games held on Sunday afternoons at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club.

Cost is $25 per player.

SkyRidge tournament

SEQUIM — SkyRidge Golf Course in Sequim will host a Pre-Christmas 18-hole Golf Tournament Saturday (barring inclement weather).

The two-person triple-six format event will include six holes of scramble play, six of the better ball format and six aggregate holes.

A 9:30 a.m. shotgun start is planned.

Cost is $60 per team and includes green fees, range balls and food. An optional honey pot is an additional $30 per team.

Power carts are available for $15 per seat.

Stevens sweeps Port Townsend

PORT ANGELES — The Stevens Middle School seventh and eighth-grade boys basketball teams recently swept a pair of games against Port Townsend’s Blue Heron Middle School.

Stevens’ eighth-grade squd ran out to a 30-8 halftime lead on its way to a 57-32 win over Blue Heron.

Kamron Meadows lead all scorers with 20 points and also added six rebounds. Derek Sparks added 10 points and four boards and Adam Watkins put up eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Ciel McDaniels led Blue Heron with 18 points.

The Stevens’ seventh-graders won 61-32. Mike Soule scored 14 points, Ty Bradow added 13, Daniel Cable had 12 and Blake Williams scored nine in the win.
