Port Angeles hosting youth hoops tourney this weekend
PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department and Port Angeles boys and girls basketball clubs are gearing up for the 18th annual Martin Luther King Invite this weekend, presented by Captain T’s Custom Stuff.
A total of 46 teams will play basketball in seven different divisions.
The 36 out-of-town teams will bring more than 700 visitors to the area, each spending one or two nights in Port Angeles.
Cities represented from off the North Olympic Peninsula include Arlington, Bainbridge, Bellingham, Bremerton, Edmonds, Everett, Gig Harbor, Lakewood, Marysville, Mountlake Terrace, Port Orchard, Puyallup, Silverdale, Snohomish, Shorewood and Tracyton.
Games begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Port Angeles High School, Stevens Middle School, Roosevelt Elementary School and the Vern Burton Community Center.
Final games will be scheduled for late Sunday afternoon.
Stevens tips Blue Heron
PORT ANGELES — Stevens Middle School knocked off Blue Heron (Port Townsend) 60-43 in a recent matchup of eighth-grade teams.
Kyle Benedict and Garrett Edwards led Stevens with 15 points apiece.
Edwards also grabbed eight rebounds.
Gabe Long chipped in with 14 points for Stevens and Bo Bradow added seven points and five boards.
