SPORTS BRIEFS: Sequim boys can’t keep pace in second half in district opener; Junior Babe Ruth registration set; Soccer sign ups

Sequim tripped up in second half vs. Renton

RENTON — Sequim trailed Renton by just four points at halftime, but 21 turnovers eventually caught up to the Wolves in a 71-45 loss to the Indians in the first round of the Class 2A West Central District Boys Basketball Tournament.

Nate Despain led the Wolves with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Erik Christiansen added 11 points and seven rebounds and Blake Wiker and Kyler Rollness had six points apiece.

Sequim (12-9) is now scheduled to play a loser-out contest Tuesday at Wilson High School in Tacoma at 7:45 p.m. Weather conditions may impact the district schedule.

Babe Ruth sign ups

PORT ANGELES — In-person registration for Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball for boys ages 13 through 15 will be held at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.,from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

All skill levels are encouraged to participate.

There will be a board meeting directly following registration at 6:30 p.m. in the same location. The league is looking for volunteers to coach teams, umpire games and assist with concessions.

Soccer registration

PORT ANGELES — Registration is now open for the Peninsula Soccer Academy.

The academy is a joint effort of the Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club and Peninsula College.

Coaching will be conducted by soccer coaches and players from Peninsula College. The developmental program is designed for players interested in enhancing their soccer skills and knowledge.

The U6-U7 program will be held at Peninsula College on Tuesdays from April 16 to May 21. This program will run from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The U8-U11 program will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 8 to May 30, while the U12-U17 program will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays between April 8 and May 30.
