PORT TOWNSEND — Charles Wright Academy used two long fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat Chimacum 34-15 in Nisqually League play at Memorial Field on Friday night.
Chimacum played the Tarriers, ranked No. 9 in Class 1A, tough for much of the game, but a 36-yard run by Alexander Moore and a 40-yard punt return by Colin Hungate turned a 21-7 lead into a 34-7 game at Chimacum’s homecoming.
Derek Ajax scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter to set up a 14-7 halftime score.
Charles Wright added a touchdown on a 90-yard kickoff return from Nick Ho to start the third quarter, but the Cowboys remained in striking distance heading into the fourth.
But the scores by Moore and Hungate put the game out of reach.
Chimacum quarterback Alex Morris scored on a 5-yard run and Mel Thornton added a two-point conversion to close out the scoring.
Thornton ran for 70 yards on 17 carries and caught two passes for 15 yards. He also completed one pass for eight yards.
Ajax had 37 yards on the ground and hauled in three passes for 36 yards.
Morris was 4 for 9 passing for 43 yards, and he ran for 27 yards.
With the victory, Charles Wright (3-0, 6-0) wins Nisqually Division 2 outright.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys fall to 1-2 in the division and 2-5 on the season.
The loss locks them into third place in their division, which sets up a meeting with rival Port Townsend in Week 9.

BELLINGHAM — As if playing the Blackhawks wasn’t tough enough, especially without standout running back Matt Mohr — who missed the game with an injury — the Bruins other two top runners left the game within the first five minutes of the game.
Jeremy Rock went to the hospital with a dislocated shoulder and Austin Ritter was held out for precautionary reasons after he experienced concussion-like symptoms.
These injuries left Clallam Bay with just 12 players.
Among them was Calvin Ritter, who moved over to running back, a position he had never played before Friday night, and had a huge game for the Bruins, rushing for 253 yards on 22 carries.
Two of his runs went for scores, an 80-yarder and a 63-yarder.
“I was real proud of him,” said Clallam Bay coach Cal Ritter, Calvin’s dad.
“He put the team on his back and did what he could with it.”
But Calvin Ritter’s yards were just about all the only offense the Bruins could generate, though Evan Messenger did score on a 23-yard pass from Ryan Willis.
Cal Ritter said the blockers also deserve credit for Calvin Ritter’s big day.
“The offensive line was holding blocks and helped him,” Cal Ritter said.
Trailing 52-6, Cal Ritter said the halftime discussion focused on playing for pride, and was proud of the effort his team game in the second half, despite the large deficit.
Clallam Bay (0-3, 2-4) plays at Tulalip Heritage on Saturday.
Cal Ritter hopes Mohr’s elbow will have healed enough that he can play against the Hawks.

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders are the Olympic League’s lone winless team after a big loss to the Vikings on Friday at Civic Field.
North Kitsap racked up 448 yards of total offense, and quarterback A.J. Milyard threw a pair of touchdowns and ran for another in the victory that helped the Vikings (4-1, 4-3) grab sole possession of second play in the Olympic League.
