PORT TOWNSEND — The Chimacum football team dueled with Class 1A No. 3 Cascade Christian for three quarters before the Cougars pulled away with a 21-point fourth quarter for a 34-6 win Friday.
The loss puts Chimacum’s (2-3, 4-4) playoff hopes in further doubt.
The Cowboys would basically have to win out and get help from Vashon Island and Orting to stay alive.
“We held our own [defensively] and we didn’t do anything offensively through three quarters,” Cowboys coach Shawn Meacham said.
Chimacum trailed 13-0 entering the fourth quarter but had a chance to cut the lead in half with a first-and-goal opportunity.
“We drove down finally and got a first-and-goal and had four shots at scoring, but we turned it over [on downs at the Cascade Christian 1-yard line.]
The Cougars then put together a 99-yard touchdown drive to go up 20-0 with four minutes left in the game.
“I would loved to have seen what the game would have turned out to be if we had scored on that drive,” Meacham said.
With the clock running down, Chimacum was forced to the air and threw an interception to set up another Cougars score.
Chimacum then scored its only touchdown of the night on an 85-yard kickoff return by Derek Toepper.
“We felt like we played them a lot closer than the score shows,” Meacham said.
“Regardless of playoff position, the kids’ attitudes are up and they know we have quite a bit left to play for with Port Townsend having the chance to have a winning season.”
The Cowboys host Port Townsend in the annual rivalry game this Friday.

SEQUIM — Eatonville kept it close for a quarter, before the Wolves blew the Cruisers away for Sequim head coach Erik Wiker’s 50th career win on Friday.
The Cruisers matched Sequim’s (5-0, 7-1) opening possession-touchdown with a clock-chewing touchdown drive of its own to pull within 7-6 with 42 seconds left in the first quarter.
That was as close as Eatonville (3-2, 3-5) would get, however, as Sequim’s Frank Catelli blocked the extra point attempt and the Wolves scored on a two-yard rush by Joey Hall three plays later.
Hall’s touchdown was set up by a 59-yard run by Sequim’s Travis Decker.
Decker ran for 238 yards and two scores on 24 carries on the night.
Sequim quarterback Drew Rickerson tossed touchdowns of 15 yards to John Textor and 29 yards to Clancy Catelli in the second half.
The Wolves host Washington (1-4, 2-6) next Friday.

TACOMA — The Redskins passing game clicked early and often in a 1A Nisqually win over the Tarriers on Friday.
“We came out and started with some really good drives,” Port Townsend coach Brian O’Hara said. “It’s a good win on the road.”
Senior quarterback Eric Thomas connected with his favorite target, classmate Cameron Robinson, on three first quarter touchdown passes of 45, 19 and 25 yards to kick start the Redskin offensive attack.
Thomas totaled six passing touchdowns on the night while Robinson caught eight passes for 177 yards and four scores.
Port Townsend held a 32-0 lead in the second quarter before Charles Wright got on the scoreboard with two long runs.
The win keeps Port Townsend (3-2, 5-3) alive in the playoff picture in the 1A Nisqually.

RAINIER — Forks shutout the Mountaineers and stayed alive in the hunt for the SWL Evergreen Division’s third playoff berth.
“The defensive line played really well and really the defense as a whole stepped up,” Forks coach Ron Hurn said.
Hurn praised defensive linemen Jalen DePew, Sam Dixon, Jon Farrell, Tanner House and Kenneth Hurn for their performance, which included a goal-line stand after a Forks turnover.
Fernando Hernandez scored all three Spartans touchdowns on short runs.
The Spartans will be Rochester’s biggest fans in the Warriors matchup with Toledo this week.
A victory by Rochester (3-3, 3-5) over the Indians (4-2, 6-2) would create a three-way tie for the third playoff and force a Kansas City tie-breaker with a date and site yet to be determined.

NEAH BAY — The Red Devils ground game found all sorts of room to roam against Crescent, rushing 61 times for 494 yards in a PCL victory.
Neah Bay’s (3-0, 8-0) victory clinches a postseason berth for the Red Devils and sets up a de facto North Division championship game at Lummi (3-0, 6-2) next Saturday.
Neah Bay jumped out on the Loggers (1-2, 5-3) early, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter and another on a 36-yard run by Titus Pascua on the first play of the second quarter for a 20-0 lead.
Pascua led the Red Devils in rushing with 13 carries for 148 yards.
Crescent answered back with two quick scores, a 57-yard rush by Dylen Heaward and a 21-yard pass from Joey Barnes to Josh Anderson to pull within 20-12 with 8:21 to play in the first half.
Heaward totaled 148 yards on 19 carries in the game.
Neah Bay stayed poised and scored on a 6-yard rush by junior quarterback Drexler Doherty for a 26-12 lead at halftime.
Evan Bowechop’s two-yard score in the third quarter and an 82-yard interception return for a touchdown by Doherty sealed the win for Neah Bay.
Jon Tolliver had a big day on the ground for Neah Bay, rushing 10 times for 116 yards, while Josiah Greene went for 88 yards on 12 carries.
Crescent is tied for the third and final playoff spot out of the PCL North with Lopez and Highland Christian Prep.
The Loggers are scheduled to host Lopez next Saturday, but the Lobos have forfeited their last two matchups due to low numbers.
