SPORTS: Chimacum softball blasts Cascade Christian 15-3; Port Townsend’s Jenny Grauberger wins league girls golf individual championship

CHIMACUM — The Chimacum softball team erupted for 12 runs in the final two innings to beat Cascade Christian 15-3 in five innings Monday.

The two teams were tied 3-3 at the end of the third inning in the Nisqually League game before the Cowboys scored six runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to blow the game open.

Chimacum improved to 5-2 in league and 9-3 overall and has earned a berth in the playoffs, which start May 21. The team is sitting in second place right now.

The Cowboys still have a few makeup games this week, including a doubleheader at home against Life Christian on Wednesday.

Despite earning just seven hits against Cascade Christian, the Cowboys scored 15 runs thanks to 14 walks and a number of passed balls issued by Cascade pitchers.

Katelyn Cadero (4-0) gave up just three hits and three runs while striking our four in the five-inning game for Chimacum.

Hannah Baird rapped a triple and had three RBIs while Bridget Galle also had three RBIs.

North Kitsap beats Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend’s Jenny Grauberger finished a perfect regular season with her eighth straight win to claim the Olympic League individual girls title by going undefeated.

Grauberger shot a 42 in nine holes at Port Townsend Golf Club to beat North Kitsap’s top golfer, Karin Muggli, by 14 strokes.

“Jenny Grauberger has had an outstanding season, and we’re really excited to have Grauberger as Port Townsend’s first female Olympic League MVP,” coach Gabriel Tonan said.

Grauberger will golf for Willamette University in Salem, Ore., starting next year.
