SPORTS: Clallam Bay beats Crescent in girls basketball North Olympic League action; other prep reports

JOYCE — Jessica Angulo sank 13 points and eight of nine players scored as Clallam Bay turned back Crescent in a North Olympic League girls basketball game Wednesday night.

The Bruins ran out to a 15-point halftime lead and cruised to a 50-17 victory.

Sarah Reeves scored nine points in a well-balanced attack for Clallam Bay while Kirstine Erickson had seven and Jaime Parker and Allesha Welever scored six each.

Kelly Belford led the Loggers with six points while Kylie Mitts and Sarah Moore popped in five points each.

“We did better,” Crescent coach Terry Kahler said. “The girls are playing better every game. Unfortunately, we don’t have much time left.”

Kahler is the third head coach the Loggers have had this year.

The Bruins led 5-3 after one quarter, 19-4 at halftime and 29-12 at the end of three periods of play.

Crescent next plays at Chimacum JV on Monday.

QUILCENE — The Rangers earned their second win in three games with a dominant defensive performance in Wednesday’s nonleague game.

Sarah Bacchus scored 13 points and Kacey Ingalls added 12 in a game that saw Quilcene (1-8, 3-10) hold the Owls to just nine points in the first three quarters.

MERCER ISLAND — Neah Bay extended their season-long undefeated streak to 15 games with another solid performance Wednesday night, defeating Northwest Yeshiva in a non-league game.

The Red Devils (4-0 in league, 15-0 overall) led the game 30-13 at intermission and cruised to victory in the second half.

Cherish Moss led all scorers with 22 points while adding 11 rebounds.

Alisha Kallappa sank 13 for Neah Bay as Rebecca Thompson scored six and hauled down eight boards in the middle.

The Red Devils host archrival Clallam Bay on Friday in North Olympic League action.

Boys Basketball Quilcene 70, Mary M. Knight 31

QUILCENE — The Rangers (2-6, 5-11) won their second straight game in blowout fashion Wednesday night.

Quilcene jumped out to a 22-7 lead after one quarter and a 41-15 edge at the half to walk away with the nonleague affair with ease.

“We just out-manned these guys tonight,” said Rangers coach Mark Thompson, whose team had 25 steals and 17 assists. “They couldn’t match up with our athleticism.

“It was really over after the first quarter. We played pretty well. I was happy our intensity didn’t drop from last night [an 80-62 win over Evergreen Lutheran].”

Dylan Brackney posted a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

C.J. Schreier dropped in 14 points while Brandon Bancroft had 13 points and six steals.

Quilcene travels to Bremerton on Friday night to take on Crosspoint Academy in a Sea-Tac Class 2B South Division game.

MERCER ISLAND — The Red Devils regained some momentum after losing two games in a row last week, breezing by Northwest Yeshiva on Wednesday night.

Neah Bay allowed Yeshiva to battle back in the second quarter, taking just a three-point lead into halftime.

The Red Devils came out on fire in the second half, out-scoring Yeshiva 41-19 down the stretch to run away with the win.

Robert Moss scored 24 points for Neah Bay on 12-of-16 shooting while hauling down seven rebounds, as well.

Drexler Doherty sparked the offense with 16 points and added six assists.

Titus Pascua had another solid night for the Red Devils, sinking 15.

Neah Bay (3-1 in league, 13-4 overall) will host archrival Clallam Bay on Friday.

JOYCE — The Loggers kept their North Olympic League winning ways going on Wednesday night, holding back a determined Bruins team for the win.

Crescent led the way at halftime by a score of 29-18.

The Bruins, however, came out strong in the third quarter to make it a tight game.

The Loggers (3-1 in league) regrouped in the fourth to put the game away.

Joel Williams led all scorers with 21 points while fighting for 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Josh Anderson had another double-double for the season, scoring 16 and grabbing 14 boards.

Andrew Trerise hauled in 16 rebounds for the Loggers while scoring five.

“This was another big win for our guys, I’m really proud of them,” Crescent coach Darren Heaward said.

“We’ve really come together as a team.”

Emmitt James led the Bruins with 16 points on the night.

Kyle Hess sank 11 while Jacob Portnoy added nine points for Clallam Bay (0-4 in league, 4-11 overall).

Crescent will travel to Chimacum JV on Monday.

Clallam Bay travels to play archrival Neah Bay on Friday.
