JOYCE — The Clallam Bay boys basketball team rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to inch past North Olympic League rival Crescent 47-44 on Wednesday night.
Senior Kyle Hess scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the final frame as the Bruins rallied from down 38-28 to force Crescent to finish the season winless in NOL play.
That included five- and three-point wins by the Bruins (3-2 in league, 13-6 overall) against the Loggers (0-6, 5-15) earlier in the year.
“It was a good game,” Crescent coach Darren Heaward said. “[Clallam Bay] did a great job and they are a great team. I hope they do really well in the playoffs.”
Clallam Bay has one more regular season game left, at home against Neah Bay on Friday, before it begins postseason play next week.
The Bruins will then face the District 1 No. 3 seed in a loser-out pigtail playoff next Thursday on the road.
Crescent, on the other hand, saw its season come to a close with Wednesday night’s loss.
Joel Williams led the Loggers with 20 points and seven rebounds. He is one of several players who will be returning next season for Crescent.
“Our kids played great,” Heaward said. “Even though we had a losing season, I think we had a successful season. We learned a lot of stuff with a lot of guys who really hadn’t played at all [before this season].”
“We played them close, so it’s kind of tough, but it’s exciting, too.”
