SPORTS: Neah Bay football cruises to league title; Forks volleyball still alive despite loss

BELLINGHAM — Neah Bay’s football team remained undefeated in clinching the Pacific Coast League North Division championship by beating perennial league power Lummi on the road Saturday (details weren’t available before Monday).

The Red Devils improved to 4-0 in league and 9-0 overall with the 50-30 victory.

They took the lead in the second quarter and never gave it up as the Red Devils led 28-22 at halftime and 36-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Lummi had a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Drexler Doherty took a part in six touchdowns as he passed for four and scored two more with runs.

He was 13-of-22 with 78 yards and one interception.

Top receivers for the Red Devils were Robert Moss with seven catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and Evan Bowechop with two catches for 80 yards and two scores.

Jon Tolliver was the top rusher as he ran 14 times for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Titus Pascua ran for 55 yards on 11 carries while Bowechop rushed six times for 50 yards.

Bowechop also had an excellent game on defense with eight tackles, four solo, and an interception and fumble return.

Pascua and Doherty also had interceptions with Doherty earning seven tackles, four solo.

Tolliver, who had 11 tackles, four solo, also had a fumble return.

Antone Rascon was busy on the defensive side with 14 tackles, five solo, while Tyler McCaulley had nine tackles, two solo, and Moss earned eight tackles, two solo.

The Red Devils next host archrival Clallam Bay on Friday night at 7.

Volleyball Rainier 3, Forks 0

MONTESANO — The Spartans dropped the playoff match for the fourth seed to the district playoffs but are still alive in postseason action.

Rainier, which tied Forks for fourth in the Southwest Washington League, beat the Spartans 25-19, 25-21, 25-15.

Julian Raven led the Spartans with six assists while Taylor Ingram had four assists.

The Spartans next play in a loser-out league playoff match at Montesano on Wednesday against an opponent to be named.

Girls Soccer Winlock/Toledo 6, Forks 0

TOLEDO — The Spartans held tough for the first half but Winlock/Toledo, also called United, scored five unanswered goals in the second half of the Southwest Washington League game recently.

United led only 1-0 at halftime.

“Our defense played real good team defense,” Forks coach Todd McDowell said.

Spartan goalkeeper Mariah Dillard stopped a penalty kick and had 35 saves in the game, McDowell said.

“She has been averaging about 20 saves a game,” McDowell said.
