PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team continued its dominating NWAACC title defense with a 4-2 over Columbia Basin at Wally Sigmar Field.
All four of the Pirates’ goals were scored in the game’s first 20 minutes.
Keevan Webb scored one minute into the game off an assist by Victor Sanchez.
Kalei Gallard made it 2-0 off an assist by Erick Urzua in the 15th minute.
It took 17 minutes for NWAACC scoring leader Alex Martinez to notch a goal, which came off an assist from the conferences second-highest scorer, Ash Apollon.
Martinez then assisted Apollon for a goal of his own in the 20th minute.
“We scored very early and often in the first 20 minutes,” Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said of Wednesday’s game.
“For the first half, we looked very good. Moved the ball well and got a lot of chances.”
The Pirates outshot the Hawks 17-8 in the game.
Columbia Basin (0-3-0) finally scored in the 76th and 89th minutes.
“We gave up two late goals in the second half off of breakdowns,” Chapman said.
“Would have been nice to hold our shutout, but in the end it was about playing time and working on different things.”
Peninsula goalkeeper Angel Guerra had three saves.
The Pirates moved to 4-0-1 on the season.
They next play the Victoria Highlanders Reserves on Saturday a 2 p.m. at Wally Sigmar Field.
