BREMERTON — The Peninsula College women’s soccer team recorded another shutout while the men’s squad exploded for eight goals as the Pirates swept Olympic on Wednesday.

The women beat the Rangers 4-0 while the men won 8-1 as the two teams continue to tune up for the playoffs.

The Pirates will conclude NWAACC regular-season action Saturday at Wally Sigmar Field against Bellevue.

The women’s game should be the most interesting as the Pirates — ranked No. 1 in NWAACC and first in the West Division, and No. 11 in the nation — takes on the Bulldogs, tied for second in the West with Highline at 7-4-4 in conference and 9-5-4.

The Pirates are 14-1 and 19-1, losing only to defending NWAACC champion Walla Walla, going into Saturday’s game.

The Peninsula men, meanwhile, shouldn’t have much of a problem against Bellevue (last in the West at 2-8-2, 3-10-2).

The Pirates, ranked No. 1 in NWAACC and No. 10 in the country, is a perfect 12-0-0 in conference, and is 19-1 overall.

The playoffs start Nov. 7 in Tukwila.

Rangers strike first

Ironically, despite losing by seven goals, Olympic was the first team to score first on the Peninsula men this year.

That advantage didn’t last long.

“Our guys rebounded really well and scored four goals in the last 8 minutes of the first half,” Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.

Alex Martinez had a hat trick for the Pirates while Erick Urzua scored two goals.

Also scoring goals were Daniel Gonzalez, Rowen White and Braiden Gundlach.

The Pirates outshot the Rangers 20-5.

Jake Forrester had two assists for the Pirates while earning an assist each were Aaron Jeffery, Martinez, Omar Ambrocio, Urzua and Parker Vacura.

In the women’s match, Peninsula’s Laura Morgan recorded the shutout while Briana Afoa added to her school record number of goals with two more.

Also scoring goals for the Pirates were Miranda Sochacki and Jordan Dinneen.

Earning assists for the Pirates were Ashlyn Frizzelle, Emilia Stefanko and Ashlyn Crossan.
