SPORTS: Port Angeles defeats North Kitsap in boys tennis; Roughriders’ volleyball team goes 2-2 at Bellevue Invitational

PORT ANGELES — Revenge was sweet for the Port Angeles boys tennis team Monday.

The Roughriders beat North Kitsap, the only team they have lost to this year, 5-2 in an Olympic League match.

“We lost a really close match to them when we played down in Poulsbo, so our guys were really motivated [Monday],” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.

“This was the definition of a team win and there were several guys that stepped up.”

The Riders swept doubles and won No. 2 singles.

Gundersen singled out the No. 4 doubles team of Jordan Negus and Tavish Casey as the players of the match.

The twosome beat Riley MacDonald and Riley Curtis-Stracker 6-7, 6-0, 6-2.

“Jordan and Tavish lost the first set and were determined to come out firing the rest of the match,” Gundersen said.

“They really played well after dropping the first set.”

Port Angeles next plays at North Mason in Belfair on Wednesday.
