PORT ANGELES — What a way to go out.
Senior Sade Pimentel bashed a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to vault the Port Angeles softball team to a 4-3 win over Kingston in its final home game of the season.
The Roughrider center fielder had gone into that at bat 0-for-3 on the day, but was still able to smoke Kingston pitcher Katie Lomas’ pitch to the fence to score Emily Drake on Senior night.
Stacy Webb, who threw a perfect game just one day earlier, earned the win on the mound for the Riders.
The junior hurler out-dueled Lomas, striking out 10 and walking one in seven innings pitched. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate, as was Drake.
Port Angeles swept Bremerton in an Olympic League doubleheader Monday, meaning the Riders closed out the regular season on a three-game win streak.
Monday’s sweep included Webb’s perfect game in a 22-0 Game 2 victory. Port Angeles (11-5 in league, 11-9 overall) took Game 1 15-1.
Webb was perfect in more ways than one in Game 2, striking out seven in five innings of work while also going 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and six RBIs.
Amanda Wasnock earned the other win on the mound Monday. She also went five innings, scattering three hits and walking none with five strikeouts.
During the intermission, the Riders honored six of their seniors for their efforts with the softball program: Pimentel, Wasnock, Miranda Pitz, Jamie Curtis, Ashley Polly and Danielle Grall.
Port Angeles will enter the Class 3A West Central District tournament as the Olympic League’s top seed.
Its opponent for the May 21-22 tourney has yet to be determined.

Baseball Fife 7, Sequim 5
FIFE — A walk-off grand slam by one of the top high school prospects in the state did the Wolves in during a West Central District loser-out playoff game Tuesday.
Sequim (9-12) was ahead 5-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but already having given up a two-run homer to prep superstar Cameron Boozer.
The Wolves had taken the bat out of Boozer’s hands earlier in the game by walking him once.
They couldn’t do that in the seventh, though, because the bases already were walked full when Boozer came up to the plate.
Boozer used the opportunity to knock the ball out of the park and add to his reputation as a dangerous hitter.
The Fife player helped ruin the prep career ending for six Sequim seniors, who led the Wolves to the playoffs, including the state tournament last year, all of their four years on the team.
“They are a great group of seniors, we’re going to miss them,” coach Dave Ditlefsen said. “I’m very proud of them.”
The seniors are Alex Gillis, Jeremie Oliver, Matt Rief, Jake Lotzgesell and twins Matt and Mike Bereiter.
Matt Bereiter pitched the first six innings of Tuesday’s game, striking out four while giving up just two earned runs.
Mike Bereiter had a solo home run in the second inning while Oliver had an RBI-single in the first inning.

LAKE QUINAULT — The Spartans season came to an end in another doubleheader sweep Tuesday.
Forks had a chance to win its last game, putting the tying run on third with one out, but the next two batters struck out to end the threat.
“We were inexperienced [this year], and hopefully we learned some baseball that will carry over into next year,” Forks coach Jerry DeFord said. “It was a proverbial rebuilding year for us.
“We’ll see how we stack up next year.”
Forks finished the season 3-16 overall and 3-11 in league.

Golf Sequim to state
SEQUIM — The Wolves are sending five golfers to state after dominating the Class 2A boys and girls Olympic League championships at Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Sequim girls captured three of the top four places while the boys claimed two of the top three places.
The top four in each division qualifies for state while the fifth through 10th golfers advance to the West Central District tournament with one more shot at state.
Sophomore Ryan O’Mera didn’t need another shot at state because he blew away the field, winning by five strokes with a 1-over 73 for medalist honors.
“Ryan played well the whole day,” coach Vic Quinet said. “He hit 18 greens today.”
Kingston’s Sam Fox was second with 78 while Sequim’s Mallory Maloney punched his ticket to state with an 83 for third.
The Wolves also will send to boys to the district meet, set for next Tuesday at Eagle Pride in Fort Lewis.
Steven Loerlein tied for eighth place with an 88 while teammate Casey Torres tied for 10th with 89.
Torres tied with teammate Ezra Perkins, who also had 89, but conceded the final playoff spot to Torres.
Senior Zoei Zbaraschuk, meanwhile, continued her torrid high school career by winning girls medalist honors by seven strokes, shooting 78.
Kingston’s Elle Sanders took runner-up honors way back at 85.
Sequim captured third and fourth to dominate at the top and send three golfers straight to state.
Hailey Estes took third place with a 90 while Kim Duce grabbed fourth with 96.
The Wolves will send two more to districts as Lisa Doan took seventh with 103 and Ashley Morton was 10th with 114.
“All the girls had an outstanding day,” coach Garrett Smithson said.
This is one of the best teams Smithson has coached.
“They have been posting numbers all year that were through the roof,” he said.
The league meet is for individual results only but if the Sequim scores were added up they would probably best the previous scores for the Wolves this year, according to Smithson.

KALAMA — Three quick goals sent the Spartans reeling in their Southwest Washington District playoff against the defending 1A state champions.
The Bruins netted goals in the third, fourth and 17th minutes; paralyzing a Forks teams looking for its third straight state tournament berth.
“They got a couple of quick goals on us, caught us off guard,” Forks coach Brian Bowers said. “You could just see the morale of the team go down after [the third goal].”
White Salmon added five more scores before the Spartans (7-9 overall) could respond with a Jose Perez goal in the 74th minute.
The Spartans are down to one last shot at state: a loser-out, winner-to-state game in Kalama against the loser of Tuesday’s Montesano-Stevenson match.
