PORT ANGELES — Mariah Frazier was a terror on the bases, stealing five, sparking the Port Angeles softball team to a 10-3 victory over Olympic on Friday at Dry Creek Elementary School.
The Roughriders improved to 3-0 on the year.
Frazier was a perfect 3 for 3 at bat while slugging out a double. scoring four times and knocking two runs in while stealing the five bases.
The Trojans tied the game 3-3 in the top of the second but the Riders broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the third with a two-out rally.
Maddy Hinrichs, Sarah Steinman, Hannah Wahto, Frazier and Emily Drake all scored in the third to put the game out of reach.
Port Angeles had 11 hits and only one error.
Tori Holcomb went 2 for 3 at bat with two RBIs while Lauren Curtis (2-0) went the distance on the mound, scattering eight hits, striking out six and giving up no walks.
The Riders next host Kingston in Olympic League action Tuesday at Dry Creek school.

FORKS — It wasn’t much of a contest as the Spartans easily won the outmanned three-inning nonleague game Friday.
Forks improved to 2-1 and will open SWL-Evergreen Division play Monday at home in a doubleheader against Rochester.
The game has been moved up from Tuesday to Monday because of rainy weather expected by Tuesday.
“Rochester is a pretty solid club,” Forks coach Scott Justus said.
“Monday’s game will tell us where we’re at.
“Our girls are getting better. After we get a couple of [league] games under our belt, we will see where we are at.”
Quinault had no experienced pitchers to throw against the Spartans on Friday.
“One girl said she had never thrown off a mound before,” Justus said.
Jillian Raben (2-1) pitched the first two innings for the Spartans, fanning six while giving up just two hits and walking one.
Alisha Shaw threw the third inning, striking out two while walking one.
Shaw also went 2 for 3 at the plate, scoring three runs while knocking in two runs.
Tabetha Brock went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and three runs.
Courtney Paul scored three runs and had two stolen bases while Sassy Price went 2 for 2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Forks in five-way nonleague meet
HOQUIAM — The Forks Spartans had two champions in their first track and field meet of the year Thursday.
The Spartans competed against Hoquiam, Elma, Rainier and Crescent.
Claiming individual championships for Forks were Shane WhiteEagle in the 200-meter sprint and Kari Larsen in the 200 race.
WhiteEagle won the 200 in 23.71 seconds, and he also claimed second in the 100 in 11.05 seconds and fourth in shot put at 39 feet even with personal best times and distances.
Larsen, meanwhile, was first in the 200 in 23.92, and she was runner-up in the 1,600 in 6:07.9.
On the boys side, Eugene Hayes captured third place in shot put with a distance of 39-7.
For the girls, Sydney Christiansen was second in both the shot put and discus while freshman Mercedes Flores took third in shot put.
Cassie Schroeder took third in the 100 while the 4×4 relay team claimed second.
Tristina Smith, Schroeder, Erin Weekes and Larsen ran on the team.
Forks coach Pam Gale said her team finally got a meet in after putting up with rain, sleet and snow in practice.
A full team has yet to be on the practice field at the same time because of tests and other activities the student-athletes are doing right now.
“We will have 32 on the team once I get them all colleted,” Gale said.

Mountaineers 3
PORT ANGELES — The youthful Olympic Peninsula Mountaineers dropped their second game of the season to the Eagles at Agnew Soccer Fields on Thursday night.
The very young Mountaineers put in a good fight in the first three quarters but the more experienced Eagles were too much for the area team.
This year’s Mountaineers team is dominated by 10 freshmen made up by both Port Angeles and Sequim high school players.
Brenden Carpenter, Eric Prosser and Tyler Philp found the back of the net for the Peninsula team.
Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Root had 17 saves on 25 shots, and was the big highlight for the Mountaineers.

Port Angeles 5, Klahowya 2
SILVERDALE — The Roughriders improved to 2-0 on the year with the Olympic League victory of the Eagles on Friday.
“We looked a lot more comfortable than we did in our first match,” coach Brian Gundersen said.
The Riders captured three doubles and two singles matches.
The No. 1 doubles team of Danielle Rutherford and Shayla Bohman beat Kelsey Dammeyer and Lacey Newman 6-2, 6-4 to lead the way in doubles action.
Also winning doubles matches were Lissy Moriarty and Kelsey Coffman at No. 3 and Bradi McFarlen and Krissy Marvelle at No. 4.
Gundersen picked Moriarty and Coffman as the players of the match.
“I was really impressed with Lissy and Kelsey’s aggressiveness,” Gundersen said.
“They played really well.”
The Riders have their first home match of the year Monday against archrival Sequim at Port Angeles High School.

VASHON — The Cowboys held off the Pirates in the Nisqually League match Friday at Vashon Golf and Swim Club.
Vashon Island’s Cole Devereau earned medalist honors with a 4-over 39 in the nine-hole competition.
Chimacum’s Nathan Browning was second with a 5-over 40 while teammate Kevin Miller was third with a 42.
Vashon’s Dan Ridgeway took fourth with 46 while Riley Downs of Chimacum was right behind with 47.
Jack Hilt shot a 49 for the Cowboys.
