SPORTS: Quilcene volleyball hangs tough but loses first volleyball match

BREMERTON — Despite youth and many players forced to play out of position, the Quilcene volleyball team had a solid performance in a 3-0 loss to Crosspoint Academy.

The Warriors beat the Rangers 25-18, 28-26 and 25-18.

For Quilcene, Elysah Schryver served six aces, Katlyn Hitt had three blocks and two kills, freshman captain Megan Weller served 11/11, Emily Ward had three kills and two blocks and Alex Johnson had six digs.

The starting lineup consisted of five freshmen, a sophomore and one senior, and missing players forced much of the team to play in unfamiliar positions, but the Rangers were able to perform well at serving and serve receiving.

Starters for the Rangers were Alex Johnson at libero, Katlyn Hitt and Emily Ward at middle blocker, Elysah Schryver and Megan Weller at setter, and Anna Davidson and Andrea Perez were the outside hitters.
