SPORTS: Sequim boys basketball falls to Clover Park in district title game

KENT — Clover Park held off Sequim for the West Central District championship in a game between two of the better 2A boys basketball teams in the state.

The No. 4-ranked Warriors, behind star player David Crisp’s 26 points, beat the No. 8 Wolves 60-45 at ShoWare Center in the district-title game Monday afternoon.

Sequim ace player Jayson Brocklesby almost kept pace with Crisp basket-for-basket as he swished in 22 points.

Both teams now head to the 2A regionals at Kent-Meridian High School on Saturday.

The Wolves (20-4) will take on the winner between Hockinson and Washougal in a winner-to-state, loser-out game at 4 p.m.

The Warriors (18-6), meanwhile, will play Olympic League co-champion Olympic at 6 p.m.

Clover Park, after losing five or their first nine games, have now won six in a row and 13 of their past 14.

In the district title game, the Warriors kept a healthy lead over the Wolves most of the first half, leading 17-9 at the end of the first quarter and 30-18 at the break.

Sequim was held to single-digit scoring in both first-half quarters.

The Wolves got to within nine at the end of the third period, 41-32, but the Warriors increased their lead in the fourth and held on.

Gabe Carter scored 10 points for Sequim while Anthony White scored 10 for Clover Park.
