SEQUIM — Seniors Gabe Carter and Jayson Brocklesby combined for 41 points as Sequim’s boys basketball team beat North Mason 67-46 to stay in a tie for first in the Olympic League.
Carter ripped the nets for 22 points and hauled down a team-high seven rebounds as the Wolves and Olympic Trojans stay on top of the standings at 10-1 each (12-3 apiece overall) after Tuesday night’s action.
Olympic beat Kingston 56-37 to keep pace with Sequim.
North Mason (1-11, 2-13) didn’t play like a cellar-dwelling team, trailing only 29-28 at halftime.
“North Mason played very well in the first half,” Sequim coach Greg Glasser said. “They shot the ball well.”
But the Wolves came out after intermission, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-7 in the third quarter and putting distance between the teams.
“We turned it around in the second half,” Glasser said. “Our kids came out and played really hard.”
Brocklesby swished in 19 points while Andrew Shimer added eight.
Brocklesby also had three blocked shots and three assists while Carter had a team-high four steals and Anthony Pinza dished out five assists.
The Wolves next play at Klahowya (4-8, 5-10) on Friday night.

Ganowski scored 11 points in the final period before fouling out as the Eagles got to within three points of the Redskins, 44-41.
But Port Townsend scored the final five points in the game to pull away.

FORKS — Braden Decker led everyone with 21 points to spark the Spartans to the SWL-Evergreen Division win Tuesday night.
Mark Jacobson added 10 points to help Forks improve to 7-3, 13-5, on its march toward the District 4 1A tournament.
“We have two huge road games next, and then onto districts,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said.
Decker scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the first half.
“Braden carried the scoring load in the first half while Jacobson did a good job inside.”
Rainier hanged around in the first half, trailing just 29-21 at intermission.
But an 11-2 blowout in the third period gave the Spartans some breathing room.
“The third quarter was huge for us,” Gooding said. “We were up by 17 going into the fourth quarter.”
It was the Spartans’ final home game of the year as the senior players were honored.
“The seniors stepped up for us,” Gooding said. “All seniors played and they all contributed.”
The Spartans next play at league power Montesano on Friday night.

POULSBO — The Vikings handed the cold-shooting Roughriders their first Olympic League loss of the year Tuesday night.
Port Angeles, a half-game ahead of Bremerton, 11-1 to 10-1, will host the Knights on Friday night.
Bremerton, which had a bye Tuesday, was at the Port Angeles-North Kitsap game, cheering on the Vikings.
The Riders, 11-4 overall, shot poorly from both the field and the charity stripe against the Vikings.
“We played well defensively, especially with our full-court pressure,” Port Angeles coach Michael Poindexter said.
“We forced a lot of turnovers, resulting in our getting 16 more shots in the game than North Kitsap.
“However, they made 47 percent from the field while we made only 19 percent. It’s hard to win a game while shooting 19 percent.
“In addition, North Kitsap shot 61 percent from the free throw line while we shot 44 percent.”
Kristin Brown and Rebekah Baugh scored 18 points each for the Vikings while Krista Johnson sank a team-high 14 points for the Riders.
Maddy Hinrichs added 12 for Port Angeles.
“Kristin Brown was especially effective again for North Kitsap,” Poindexter said.
“She has scored 18 both times they’ve played us. Ten of her 18 came in the fourth quarter, in which two of our players fouled out.”

FORKS — The Spartans ran out of gas in the fourth quarter during Senior Night in their final home game of the year Tuesday night.
Up until then, Forks was right in the game, deadlocked at 28-28 with Rainier going into the final period.
“On Senior night we probably played our best defensive basketball for 28 minutes,” Forks coach Al Scheibner said.
“The girls played with passion and intensity to still be in it with 4 minutes left in the game.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t score a field goal in the fourth quarter, which really hurt us. We had our opportunities but just couldn’t buy a basket.”
Defense was the name of the game in the first half for Forks.
“In the first three quarters I thought we did a really good job in disrupting what they usually do to score points,” Scheibner said.
“We limited their fast-break opportunities and took advantage of what they gave us offensively.
“Rainier is a good team and we just couldn’t hold them the last four to five minutes of the game.
“That, combined with our offensive woes in the fourth quarter, was the difference in the game. I only played seven girls as we’ve had some girls sick and I think we got a little tired at the end of the game.
“I’m really proud of how the entire seven players battled the entire game and never gave up.
“We are getting better and just need to learn to be more consistent.”
Four seniors — Terra Sheriff-Penn, Jillian Raben, Sassy Price and Casey Williams — played their final home game for Forks.
“I’m really proud of our four seniors, who did an outstanding job on Senior Night,” Scheibner said.
“It’s been a tough year as far as wins and losses are concerned. However, our four seniors have been wonderful in being leaders on and off the court.
“Strangely enough, if we win one of our next two games, we still have an opportunity to get to districts, something which I believe none of these seniors have experienced.
“Hopefully, we can take care of business in the final two league games of the season.”
The Spartans are 1-8 in SWL-Evergreen Division and 1-14 overall.
