SEQUIM — Increasing darkness didn’t stop Bremerton from lighting up the scoreboard for a game-winning goal in the 77th minute against Sequim in Olympic League boys soccer.
Brandon Payne scored a pair of second-half goals for the Wolves to even the score at 2-2, but the Knights scored on a long throw-in from Mike Lawrence to Brian Haneline with three minutes left to give Bremerton the upset.
It was the second time in the game that the a Lawrence throw-in led to a Haneline goal, the first coming in the game’s 19th minute.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute on a goal by Caleb Petroski.
Payne scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute, and then converted an Lijah Sanford assist into the equalizing goal in the 72nd minute.
“I was proud of the kids for fighting back after being down 2-0,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said.
“We need to shore up our defense a little bit going into, hopefully, the playoffs.”
The lights at Sequim High School field didn’t go on, so the game was finished as darkness crept in.
Brasher chose defender Royhon Agostine as the player of the match.
Agostine entered the game after halftime, and had a solid performance that included drawing the penalty kick that led to Payne’s first goal.
The Wolves (7-5, 23 points) next play at Port Townsend (6-5, 19 points) on Tuesday evening.
“That’s a big game,” Brasher said. “They are right behind us in the standings.”
Sequim currently sits in third place in the Olympic League while the Redskins are in fifth place.

TENINO — Abasai Garcia and Marco Ramos both scored second-half goals for the Spartans, but it wasn’t enough for Forks to defeat the Beavers in SWL-Evergreen Division action.

SILVERDALE — The Trojans, one of the better teams in the Olympic League, held off the Roughriders on a stormy day.
The Trojans scored on a counterattack after a Rider turnover in midfield in the 23rd minute lead lead 1-0 at halftime.
The wind was blowing strong from the south at Silverdale Stadium, affecting both teams when they had to play into it.
The Riders stayed in the game, and backup goalie Harrison Pearce filled in well along with John Macias, who played the last 15 minutes in goal for the Riders, coach Chris Saari said.
Rider defensive center-mid Wei-yan Fu did a good job settling the ball and distributing in midfield, Saari added.
The Trojans pressured the Riders heavily in the second half with the wind at their backs while Port Angeles was unable to create very many good scoring chances throughout the match.
In the 52nd minute, Trent’n Pajimula received the ball near the top of the Rider penalty box and beat several Rider defenders to add an insurance goal for the Trojans.
Saari picked Pearce as the defensive player of the match, and Fu the transition player of the match.
Olympic won the JV game 3-1.
The Riders, 1-11-0, next will host North Kitsap on Tuesday at Civic Field.

CHIMACUM — Mallori Cossell rapped out a triple and Cydney Nelson and Kyah McKinlay hit doubles to spark the Cowboys to the Nisqually League victory.
Chimacum scored six runs in the first and eight in the second to break the game open early.
In addition, both Erin Bainbridge and Krista Hathaway had three RBI each.
Nelson pitched the first three innings, striking out five and walking none whil spreading out five hits.
Ryley Eldridge threw the final two innings, giving up just one hit.
On defense, Kiersten Snyder had two outs from shortstop, Megan Dukek had an out from third, Nelson had two outs from pitcher and 2 outs from shortstop in which one was a double play and Eldridge had one out from pitcher.

PORT LUDLOW — The Cowboys remained undefeated, running their record to 6-0.
Senior Kevin Miller was the match medalist, shooting 39 on Port Ludlow Golf Club’s Timber nine (par 36).
The Cowboys won on the strength of their balance with Nathan Browning shooting 41, Jack Hilt 42 and Riley Downs 43.
Dominic Cindrich led Charles Wright with 40 for second place.
The loss drops Charles Wright to 4-2, and sets up a showdown between Chimacum and Seattle Christian (also undefeated) in the Nisqually Classic, an all-league tournament to be held at Port Ludlow on Tuesday starting at 2 p.m.

BELFAIR — Joe Barnes took medalist honors with a 79 to spark the Roughriders to the Olympic League win at Lakeland Village.
Port Angeles took the top three places as Garrett Payton was second at 84 and Alex Atwell and Micah Needham tied for third with 85 each.
Josh Fredrickson scored 86 to lead the Bulldogs with a fifth-place finish.

BELFAIR — Zachary Glover and Keegan Khile both scored under 100 to lead the Redskins to the Olympic League victory at Lakeland Village.
North Mason’s Josh Fredrickson took medalist honors with a score of 86 but Glover and Keegan Khile weren’t far behind.
Glover was third with 92 and Keegan Khile earned fourth with 93.

BELFAIR — The Roughriders had their lowest team score of the season in the Olympic League match at Lakeland Village.
Match medalist went to junior Dana Fox with a 42 while Taylor Rutz also had a season low of 53.
Chloe Brown shot a 62, Greta Gieseke and Brittany McBride both shot 66 and Maddie Boe shot a 67.

CHIMACUM — There were a lot of firsts during this match.
First meet and win against Bremerton this season.
First win for Frances Sheldon-O’Neal, at first singles, 6-4, 6-4.
First win at singles for Rachel Maki, at second singles, 6-4, 6-2.
First varsity win for Sophia Thurston, and her first varsity doubles match. She won third doubles with Irina Lyons, 6-0, 6-2.
In other scores: MaryJane Richardson played one of her better matches at third singles but lost 2-6, 4-6; Rachel and Rebecca Ramsey won first doubles, 6-4, 6-4; and Olivia Garten and Olivia Baird won second doubles, 7-5, 6-1.
The Cowboys are 4-4 on the season with one incomplete match because of rain, where Chimacum was ahead.
Chimacum was winless the previous two seasons.

UNIVERSITY PLACE — The Cowboys took fourth place in the boys meet and fifth in the girls competition in Nisqually League action.
Both boys and girls teams scored 13 points each with an individual champion on each side.
Daryl Settlemire won the discus for the Cowboys with a throw of 153 feet even for the boys while freshman Bailey Castillo took the girls javelin with a toss of 96-09.
The next best place was third earned by Mel Thornton in the long jump with a leap of 18-05.5.
Claiming fourth place each were Settlemire in javelin with a throw of 110-11, Hailee Johnson in the 200 with a time of 28.70, and Sam Cerna with a heave of 25-04 in girls shot put.
Eatonville won the boys meet with a score of 117.1 and the girls competition with 166.
Charles Wright was second for the boys, followed by Vashon Island and Chimacum while Charles Wright also was second in the girls meet, followed by Annie Wright, Vashon Island and Chimacum.
