PORT ANGELES — The Olympic High School boys golf team won the 15th annual Duke Streeter Scramble Tournament on Monday at Peninsula Golf Club.
The Trojans scored 205, 11-under par, to capture the nine-team tourney.
The Olympic girls team won the girls Duke Streeter tourney last Friday.
“This is the year of the Olympic Trojans,” Port Angeles coach Mark Mitrovich said.
“They won the Higgins last Thursday. They are undefeated on the year, and they are very deep and well coached.”
Sequim’s varsity team was runner-up with a 208 while Port Townsend claimed third with 218, followed by Chimacum with 221, Port Angeles varsity 228, Sequim No. 2 sixth with 229, Kingston seventh with 237, North Kitsap next with 252 and Port Angeles No. 2 ninth at 273.
Port Angeles finished right where Mitrovich was expecting to finish.
“We are a young team, and we just don’t have the firepower to compete at a higher level right now.”
The tournament was played in a two-person scramble format.
Medalists were Olympic players Mike Noyes and Scott Lutz, who finished with a 9-under 63.
Many players finished under par.
“It was a brilliant day for golf,” Mitrovich said. “It was calm and windless. When there is no wind, scores come down.”
Sequim’s top scorers were Colby Rude and Chad Quinet, who shot a 6-under 66 while the top Port Angeles twosome, senior Scott Kilzer and freshman Jordan Neges, scored a 4-under 68.
Port Townsend’s top dual, Ronnie Harrell and Zack Yakush, also scored a 4-under 68.
Chimacum’s top twosome, meanwhile, Adam Barrows and Erik Nelson, scored an amazing 8-under 64.
Complete scores of the area teams will be in Wednesday’s Scoreboard on Page B2 of the Peninsula Daily News.
