SPORTS: Sequim, Port Townsend send athletes to state girls swimming championships

SILVERDALE — Port Townsend and Sequim will both send athletes to the Class 1A/2A state girls swimming championships after strong showings at the West Central District meet this weekend.

Sequim’s Rachel Hardy swam a career-best in the 50-yard freestyle and 100 free to qualify in 26.21 seconds and 58.42 seconds, respectively.

“She was very happy with her performance today as was everyone else for her,” Sequim coach Linda Bingler said.

Port Townsend will send three relay squads and two competitors to the championships after a powerful showing.

Julia Griffiths won the 100 free in 57.35 seconds, and captured second in the 50 free in 26.20 seconds.

Serena Village also qualified in the 100 breaststroke with a second-place finish in 1:14.69.

Port Townsend’s 200 free relay team finished first in 1:50.59, and was third in the 200-medley relay (2:06.42) and 400 free relay (4:18.63).
