SPORTS: Sequim pounds Port Townsend in baseball; other prep reports

SEQUIM — The Sequim baseball team stayed in the race for the Olympic League championship by beating winless Port Townsend 17-3 in six innings Tuesday.

It was a home game for the Redskins even though it was held at Sequim because the Port Townsend baseball field was too wet to play on.

The makeup game originally was scheduled for Monday at Port Townsend but was moved to Tuesday because of rain.

The Wolves (10-3, 13-4) are tied with North Kitsap at 10-3 each while Kingston stands alone at top at 9-2.

Sequim has an opportunity to knock the Buccaneers off the top because Kingston is scheduled to play in Sequim today, weather permitting.

Sequim coach Dave Ditlefsen said he is looking forward to playing Kingston today.

“We hope we play well, and if we play well, we will take our chances,” he said.

Against the Redskins (0-12, 0-13), Drew Rickerson (2-2) pitched the first three innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out four.

Karsten Wake carried the big bat, going 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
