SEQUIM — Two-time defending Olympic League champion Sequim isn’t going away anytime soon.
The mighty Wolves, who went undefeated and captured the 2A state championship in 2011, and claimed fourth place in state last year, buried Port Townsend 32-0 on 22 hits in five innings Friday.
It was the opening league game for both teams.
The Redskins, who went winless in league and 2-16 overall in 2012, just were no match for the Wolves, who went 21-7 last year and were league co-champions with Kingston at 14-2.
Competition will pick up for the Wolves as they travel to Kingston on Wednesday after a bye on Monday.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Sequim second-year coach Mike McFarlen said about playing Kingston.
The Buccaneers are expected to be rebuilding this year after graduating a strong class of seniors in 2012.
Kingston opened the season with a solid 11-4 win against Olympic on Friday.
The Wolves, meanwhile, were operating on all cylinders against the Redskins on Friday.
“They did what I thought they would do,” McFarlen said about his team.
“Rylleigh Zbaraschuk hit the ball well.”

SILVERDALE — The Roughriders produced seven consecutive hits in the sixth inning, including Ashlee Reid’s grand slam, to pound the Eagles in the Olympic League opener for both teams Friday.
Port Angeles started the game slow, settling for a 0-0 tie after three innings.
But then the Riders scored five runs in the fourth and the flood gates opened after that.
“Everyone started hitting the ball hard,” Port Angeles first-year coach Randy Steinman said.
The Riders scored eight runs in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule with Reid coming up with the big hit of the game.
The Eagles, meanwhile, struggled against the Port Angeles pitching and defense.
Sarah Steinman (1-0) pitched the first four innings, giving up just two hits while striking out four.
Cara Cristion threw the final two innings, giving up no hits while fanning two.
“Our pitchers and defense played really well,” Steinman said.
Four Riders had multiple hits with Reid leading the way by going 2 for 4 with the grand slam and four RBI, and a double.
Tori Kuch went 3 for 4 with a double while Dove Lucas was a perfect 3 for 3, and Raelyn Lucas went 2 for 3.
Page Ebhart was 2 for 3 for the Eagles.
In JV action, the Riders were leading 10-0 when the game was called in the fourth inning due to rain.
The Riders next travel to Bremerton on Monday.

QUILCENE — The youth and talent of the 1B Rangers was on display Thursday night against the 2A Eagles.
Sophomore Sammy Rae went the distance on the mound, pitching seven innings with 10 strikeouts and giving up just four hits and two earned runs.
Freshmen Megan Weller and Alex Johnson both had nice games at the plate.
Weller, who played catcher for the first time, went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, while Johsnon was 1 for 3 and drove in a run.
“Big win for us against a 2A school,” first-year Quilcene softball coach Mark Thompson said.
“It’s a confidence boost for our team.
“Sammy pitched really well, and changed up her speeds.
“Megan Weller did a nice job her first time being catcher.”
Quilcene’s upperclassmen also contributed to the win.
Junior Sophia Knutzen went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Senior Bee Sitthison scored two runs and made a nice catch to end the game.

SILVERDALE — Dillon Keefer did a little bit of everything for the Eagles in Klahowya’s first home game in two years on its school field.
The poor Klahowya draining field has been unplayable the past two seasons because of rainy weather.
Keefer (1-0) took advantage of playing at home by pitching a complete one-run game for the victory.
He tossed a three-hitter while striking out six and walking one.
Keefer also had the game-winning hit in the sixth inning.
Wesley Giddings pitched the first five innings for the Roughriders while Brady Konopaski threw the sixth and final inning.
Marcus Konopaski caught the game.
The Riders next play at Bremerton on Monday.

SEQUIM — The Wolves had five different players score a goal Thursday as Sequim improved to 2-1 on the young season.
The Eagles scored quick, with Matt Danielson scoring in the first minute of the game.
But the Wolves responded just as quickly, with Ron Welches hooking up with Mason Barrett to even the score a 1-1.
After that quick start, it took the ball 35 minutes to find its way into the goal. Omar Flores ended the drought with a goal in the 37th minute off an assist by Nick Baird to give Sequim a 2-1 lead.
“We played well, I thought, after getting down 1-0 real quick,” Wolves coach Dave Brasher said.
From there, the Wolves rolled.
In the second half, Welches scored in the 48th minute, assisted by Eli Berg.
Welches then assisted on the play of the game, a diving header by Dorian Halverson, which Brasher dubbed a “beautiful, SportsCenter goal.”
Halverson was named player of the match.
The scoring concluded on a 72nd-minute goal on which freshman Thomas Winfield scored off an assist by another freshman, Cameron Chase.
Klahowya’s (1-2) other goal came in the 51st minute on Danielson assist to James Charoenmak.
“The defense again played well, Lijah Sanford anchoring that down in the back,” Brasher said.
“And a good job in the midfield by Nick Baird.”
Next for the Wolves is a road match against Bremerton (1-1).

PORT TOWNSEND — The Redskins went ahead early with a goal in the sixth minute but the Knights scored the final two goals in the Olympic League game Friday night.
It was Port Townsend’s first loss of the year after beating Port Angeles 6-5 in overtime and then beating Klahowya 3-1 in earlier games.
Bremerton’s winning goal came with just 4 minutes left in the game off of a 25-yard shot by senior Alfredo Roman that beat Redskin goalie Brian LeMaster off his line as it dropped in over his out-stretched arm.
“This wide-open game saw hard tackles and fast pace from both teams,” Port Townsend coach Steve Shively said.
“Little was left in either team’s tank after the full 80 minutes.”
Port Townsend scoring was from senior co-captain Michael Shively when he took a square pass at the top of the box from fellow senior Mikyas Somes.
Michael Shively placed a shot high in the upper-right corner of the Bremerton net.
Port Townsend held the lead and controlled much of the offense throughout the remainder of the first half until the 38th minute when Bremerton senior Chris Sargent drove down the right wing and released a crossing-shot deep inside the Redskins box, beating the goalkeeper and finding the inside corner of the far post.
“Outstanding midfield and defensive pressure was applied all night by our starters and subs,” Steve Shively said.
“Every player stepped up to the challenge brought by a high school three times the size of Port Townsend.”
In JV action, the Redskins defeated the Knights 5-1.
Port Townsend enjoys a bye in Olympic League play Tuesday before traveling to Sequim on Thursday and hosting North Mason at home Saturday.

BELFAIR — The Bulldogs prevailed in Olympic League action on a muddy, rainy and sloppy night Thursday.
Senior forward Colin Ralston scored two for the Bulldogs and sophomore Daniel Wiseman added two more.
The Bulldogs were up 1-0 at halftime but added insurance goals quickly in the second half.
Roughrider goalkeeper Jack Doryland kept the scoreline from being worse with multiple big saves.
The Riders were unable to generate many quality shots and didn’t test the North Mason goalkeeper.
Doryland and Tristan Isett were named co-defensive players of the match while Scott Methner was picked as the transition player of the match.
The Riders, 0-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in league, next hosts Olympic on Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. on Civic Field.

KINGSTON — The powerful Buccaneers blanked the Redskins in Olympic League competition Thursday.
Port Townsend/Chimacum came close to breaking the shutout in No. 2 doubles play as Sarah Allen and Rachel Maki lost 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 to Kingston’s Sarah Zischke and Sara Beckstrom.
Olivia Baird also gave a competitive match at No. 3 singles, losing 6-4, 6-2 to Kingston’s Emma Saas.

PORT ANGELES — The Mountaineers dropped their season-opener Tuesday at the Agnew Fields.
Elliott Soelter scored three goals and Ryan Root made 10 saves in goal for the North Olympic Peninsula team, but it wasn’t enough to counteract four goals by South Kitsap’s Ben Tighe.
Connor Leslie and Miguel Moroles also scored goals for the Mountaineers.
