PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball got back onto the track by taking a doubleheader from Olympia Sports Unlimited at Civic Field last weekend.
Wilder, which opened the 2009 season two weekends ago by going 1-3 but with a couple of different bounces of the ball could have been 3-1, dominated Olympia on Saturday.
The Port Angeles team (3-3) took the first game 6-1 on a combined three-hitter by Chase Moore and Cody Sullivan, and came from behind to rip Olympia 10-2 in the nightcap.
“It was a good day for us, we needed to get a win,” Wilder coach Rob Merritt said.
“We played good defense, our pitching was pretty good and our hitting came around for us.”
The Wilder defense had just one error in each game.
Wilder never trailed in the first game, leading 2-0 after three innings and 6-0 after scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Moore (2-0) started the game on the mound, allowing just two hits while fanning five batters in five innings. He didn’t give up a run despite allowing four walks.
Sullivan gave up one run on one hit in the final two innings, striking out one. He also had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two doubles and scoring two runs.
A.J. Konopaski went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored while Brien Jaksha was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
In the second game, Wilder went ahead 2-0 in the third inning but Wilder broke it open with six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The area team also scored four in the sixth.
Danny Romero started the game and pitched the first three innings while Justin Williams threw the next two innings and picked up the win.
Justin Winters pitched the last two innings.
Sullivan, Konopaski, Jaksha again carried the big bats along with Easton Napiontek.
Sullivan and Konopaski both went 2-for-4 with Sullivan scoring two runs and getting a double and an RBI while Konopaski had two RBIs and two runs scored.
Napiontek went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a double and a run while Jaksha was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and a run.
Wilder next will host the Vancouver, Wash., Coyotes this coming Saturday for a doubleheader at Civic Field starting at 1 p.m.
“We’re just trying to get better each game,” Merritt said.
