STATE GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles finishes season at state meet

TACOMA — Port Angeles sent six gymnasts to the state gymnastics meet where they competed with hundreds of gymnasts from the 1A, 2A and 3A classifications at the Tacoma Dome.

Senior captain Madylan Coventon was the Roughriders’ top all-around performer, finishing 66th in the all-around with a score of 23.9.

Coventon was 59th in uneven bars with a 6.95, 53rd in floor with a 8.850 and 55th in vault with a score of 8.1.

Freshman Maya Wharton achieved Port Angeles’ highest finish in a single event, placing 47th in the floor routine with a 8.95 score.

Wharton also was 63rd in bars with a 6.875.

Other bars results for the Riders were Lexi Hefton, who score of 6.850 was good for 64th place, and Alysa Martinez, who placed 83rd with a 6.35.

Martinez, a senior team captain, also scored a 6.35 with her floor return, giving her an 83rd-place finish.

Port Angeles’ other senior captain, Katie Gibson, placed 77th in vault (7.90) and 78th on the balance beam (7.10).

Shay-Lyn Gracey, a senior, scored 7.775 in vault (82nd place) and 5.950 in beam (95th).
