STATE GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles’ Middlestead leads area by taking 31st in all-around

TACOMA — Port Angeles sophomore Cassii Middlestead had the North Olympic Peninsula best showing at the state gymnastics meet.

The Roughriders placed eighth in the Class 2A/3A meet as a team with a score of 150.425 Friday at the Tacoma Dome.

Middlestead finished 31st in the all-round, compiling a four-event score of 31.7.

She had the area’s best scores and placings in two of the four events. She scored an 7.95 and placed 27th on the uneven bars, and her 8.7 on the bars put her at 29th place.

Middlestead was 71st on the floor exercise (8.3), and 85th on the vault (6.75).

Maya Wharton was the area’s best in those two events, tying for 49th on the floor (8.7) and 55th on the vault (7.375).

Wharton, a junior, was 44th in the all-around with a score of 30.5.

She tied for 50th on the bars (7.0) and took 83rd on the beam (7.425).

Other all-around placing for the Riders: Nikki Price was 53rd (29.125), Lexi Hefton was 54th (28.825) and Sydney Miner took 56th (28.325).

No area gymnasts were among the top-16 placers in each even who moved on to the finals.

Sequim’s only state qualifier, Ennisa Albin, took 96th on the uneven bars.
