STATE TRACK AND FIELD: Sequim’s Riley Pyeatt wins state championship in the 800

TACOMA — Sequim’s Riley Pyeatt, one of the top middle-distance runners in the state, came through in the 800-meter run with a performance worthy of a state champion.

Peyatt ran a personal-best 2 minutes, 14.23 seconds in the 800, one of her best events, to win the championship at the 2A state track and field meet at Mount Tahoma Stadium. She beat Jamie Maas of Washougal by 0.78 seconds.

Earlier in the meet, Pyeatt took fourth in the 1,600 with another personal-best 5:03.91.

Pyeatt is yet to run the 400 and the 4×400 with teammates Hi’lei Robinson, Kaitlyn Bloomenrader and Eve Macy. They had the top time in the state in the prelims at 4:03.91.

Sequim’s Jolene Vaara was third in the high jump at 5 feet, 1 inch.
