TACOMA — North Olympic Peninsula wrestlers will wrap their seasons today at Mat Classic XXXV, the state wrestling tournament at the Tacoma Dome.
Forks had three wrestlers reach the Class 1B/2B semifinals at Mat Classic as of Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
The Spartans (65) sit fourth in the crowded team standings, with Tonasket way out in front at 111 points, Okanogan second with 66.5 and Granger next at 66.
Forks’ Jesus Garcia-Dominguez advanced to the 113-pound semifinals, but was pinned at 3:54 of his match with Caiden Kassel of Liberty.
Nate Dahlgren is alive in the 190-pound semifinals after receiving an opening-round bye and then winning by pin at 1:24 of his match with Warden’s Jaden Hernandez.
Reigning 1B/2B 285-pound state champion Sloan Tumaua is in the semifinals in his bid to repeat as champ. Tumaua squeaked past Kettle Falls’ Kaden Hippler by a 3-2 decision in the quarterfinals after a first-round bye.
Abraham Montealegre is 3-1 so far for the Spartans at 113 and alive for a third-place finish.
Brian Lucas was eliminated with an 0-2 record in the 120-pound division.
Walker Rondeau is 1-1 at 132-pounds — earning a bye then opening with a quarterfinal loss before beating Colfax’s Dillon Gassenberg by pin at 2:23.
Landon Thomas went 0-2 at 138 pounds.
Walker Wheeler earned a quick pin over Goldendale’s Storey Woodbury in his 144-pound quarterfinal at :53 seconds and is alive for a top podium position.
Aiden Ivey is battling at 150 pounds, picking up two wins by pin to stay alive in the consolation bracket.
Jon Parker Jr. went 0-2 in the 175-pound division.
In a North Olympic Peninsula girls wrestling quarterfinal, Forks’ Miley Blanton edged East Jefferson’s Mi Amada Lanphear-Ramirez 10-7 to reach the 120-pound Class 1B/2B/1A/2A semifinals. Both wrestlers have totaled more than 30 wins this season.
Forks’ Flora Horejsi (105) went 1-2. Natalie Horejsi (110) went 0-2 for the Spartans.
Peyton Johnson is alive in the consolation bracket after going 2-1 with two pins.
East Jefferson
The Rivals’ lone boys state entrant Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez went 1-1, falling in his quarterfinal in a 17-7 major decision against Royal’s Shea Stevenson before bouncing back for his own 15-4 major decision win over Joshtyn Elmer of Meridian.
Sequim
Sequim’s Cayden Beauregard hopes at improving on his seventh-place finish at 113-pounds in the Class 2A division at state last year are still alive.
Beauregard is 3-1, with two wins by decision and another a 16-0 technical fall in his bounceback match after falling in the quarterfinals.
Port Angeles
Port Angeles’ Ethan Abrams went 1-2 at 157-pounds.
The Roughriders’ Faye Dachs went 2-2, earning a first-round pin and a consolation round pin, but fell to Forks’ Peyton Johnson by pin at 3:46 in their girls 115-pound match.
Willow Harvey is still alive at 130 pounds. Harvey dropped her opening round match by pin at 3:21, but bounced back to pin Zillah’s Yareli Garcia at 3:54 of their match.
